Yea having to develop to the rim would not me good nor moving the pawn a 2nd time would be slow at development!

Black could play e5 later and then the knight can be placed on e7.

At this stage, the game is not too bad for black yet.

White is playing well so far in my opinion. Taking the center and both bishops can get out, good center control also. I favor white here.

@jkarp Here is a question for you: Look at this position. Yes, White has doubled pawns. However, is it bad for White? No, as the pawn structure from both side are very similar. The only difference is that White has a "backup" pawn on the d file as well. That means if White exchanges his/her advanced d pawn for Black's e pawn, for example, Here would be the position: As you can see, White is simply up a pawn. However, this does not apply to every position where a side has doubled pawns. In this game, the doubled pawns didn't matter at all as the queen took one of them anyway, restoring the material balance.

The are not isolated because white still has the c-pawn! Also black can simply take it back with the queen. As white, I would have preferred Nc3 though.

I don't agree with that assessment. Black can - and does - get out of this very easily, so white's just wasting his time with this. Instead, white needs to try take advantage of black's weak first move (1. ... f6?!), and should look to develop as quickly as possible - 6. Bd3, 7. Bf5, 8. 0-0, etc. (Note that if 6. Bd3 NxP 7. NxN QxN?? 8. Bb5+ picks up the queen.) Meanwhile, black's f6 move has blocked in both his knight and bishop, and he'll have to waste time getting fully developed. White's aim is to make sure he never succeeds. The move played doesn't do that.

Well, this is a sneaky little move - 7. ... PxN or NxN are met with 8. Nc7+, and white has two pieces for the queen. Possibly deserving of an exclamation mark, particularly in light of the follow-up. Can anyone find a direct refutation of this?

Very good move. This also threats Qh5+ g6? 9 Nxg6 and h-pawn is pinned.

I can't find a better move than this! Black is already in a lot of trouble.
