1. e4
|
This is my game (as black) against my fellow team-mate. He opens with the standard e4, which I used to open with as white, but now I prefer d4, as it has more options. |

My rating has improved by 200 points since I started playing the Sicilian (c5) as black against an e4 white opening. For one, I no longer have to endure King's Gambit games, which I found to be mental torture and the bane of my existence, but more important, it attacks the queen side, which took me a while to realize can be just as effective as king-side attack. |

2. Bc4
|
According to some schools of thought 2. Bc4 (Philidor) is inferior to Nf3, Nc3 and the Morra (d4) & Wing (b4) gambits, but I think this response is just as good. It attacks and develops at the same time, which is what we are taught to do. |

I rarely play against the Philidor, so I thought I would try e6 as a variation to the traditional Philidor - Sicilian Nf6. |

He plays Nf3, develop and attack. |

I decide to put the pressure on the bishop right away. |

He puts me on the defensive by checking. |

I'm willing to sac my bad bishop. |

5. Qe2

Bringing out his queen. Some would say too soon? I probably would have exchanged bishops, but I don't think this is bad move. For one, it prevents me from activating my knight (which I like to do ASAP) on the bishop exchange. |

Time to make him make a decision. |

Same move I would have made probably. Puts black on the defensive. |

I decide to put pressure on the knight as a counter. |

Same as I would have done probably. |

I decide to attack e4 develop. |

9. Nc3
|
This is probably the first questionable move by my teamate. It invites d4, which is allowing me to develop and attack into his base, and the knight doesn't really have anywhere to go. I probably would have castled and attacked f5/king side. |

My teamate looks like he's sac-ing his knight in order to open up the e-file for the revealed queen check...I think I can defend though...A noble attempt by him, although I probably would have played Nd1 with thoughts of adding the knight to a king-side attack. |
