BOOK REVIEW: A unique N.T./O.T Commentary
Some of you will know that I have been making quite an effort these last couple of years to try to better understand “all things Jewish” in order to better understand the New Testament.
The time spent has been valuable beyond calculation, and I am now reading the New Testament and finding it “new” in so many ways.
During the course of my study over the couple of years I have come across many great books and other resources – commentaries, reference books, books describing the manners and culture of first century Judaism, and so on – but two weeks ago I found something different – I struck Gold! - and have to share this wih you.
It is a “Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament” by G K Beale and D A Carson published in 2007 (How did I miss it for so long!?) and in my opinion is a must for any bible student, pastor, bible study leader.
In my studies it will be one of my first ports of call as I seek to establish the meaning of any text in its cultural setting.
This volume of 1200 pages plus is in my experience unique on its form, taking every N.T. use of an O.T. text and providing cultural, linguistic, theological and exegetical insights, an invaluable tool for every student of the word.
This book is worth several times its price - I bought this off Amazon for £25 ($35) – a bargain by any standards – but forget the price!
This is a book which will become a prized part of any bible student’s resources.
Good reading, everyone,
Mervyn

I don't think I have ever been in a discussion about a commentary (!), and with a volume as packed with information as this one, I am not at all sure where we would begin....but I'm game, Len....
Have a look at the book when you get it and we'll work something out.
