That's it...
... I need a telescope. Not to change the direction of this thread, but do you have any recommendations?

YES I DO
It depends on what you have to spend. I recommend this scope;www.hayneedle.com it is portable and very stable. It is versatile. It gives good images if planets and good images of deep-sky objects. But its best selling point is that it can convert into a very powerful platform for astro-photography. I mean very simple photography that's not so expensive. Do you have dark Sky's? or are you in a area that has a lot of light pollution caused by city lights?.If this scope is too expensive there are less expensive ones that i can recommend. So we need to talk more about it. I will post a photo i took of the 'pillars of creation' on my profile. So when you get this message go check it out. j

Thanks!
It is within my budget. Not immediate budget as I'll have to save a little for it, but definitely within the next few months. I don't want to buy something that I'd outgrow soon, so I'm willing to spend a little more for good features. I do have a dark sky. I live in the country with very few lights around.... BUT very tall pines. I have almost 4 acres of land and there is a patch in the back yard with no trees which gives a nice, albeit limited, view of the night sky. That is an amazing photo!

your dark sky is your ace in a hole
haveing a dark sky is the best thing to have. Plus you can take this scope to more open areas and see better horizons. I to have a lot of trees to the south.I can only view m-16 when it passes between trees.I can only get down in the constellation sagitarius as far as m-22(a globular cluster). My other horizons to the North, east and west are better. Buying a scope is expensive but you will find that you need other things as you guy along. They usually only give you 1-eyepiece(low power but wide field of view) with the scope. You will need more,I have some that i can let you have. I have so many that i don't use. So if you get the scope there yours. I will help you every step of the way,so ask any questions you have. You are about to embark on a great journey!!.With that scope with a video camera you can go here;;www.youtube.com and many many other places.
