My taste stretches far
I listen to nearly everything, except jazz and Afrikaans music, although I am from South Africa and speak Afrikaans. I find Afrikaans music a pale imitation of rock 'n roll or pop; our local artists are not on the international standard yet. On the other hand, we have contributed some great music to the international scene (Johnny Clegg and Jaluka, Mean Mr Mustard, The Parlotones and more) but no classical music as far as I know. I play clarinet, saxophone, recorder and trumpet. I have no preference for a specific genre, and listen to what my mood dictates. As I am typing here, a CD of Pavarotti is on, and I was listening to some Springsteen before that.

As I was born and raised in the Scottish highlands (by the grace) I am more of a pipes and drums man www.youtube.com

your friend is very good
Quite impressive. Much more talented than me. I grew up with a singer called Jim Diamond, he was my dads best mate when I was a kid, quite inspirational he had a few number 1's, this was off his Scottish album, it absolutely bombed as an album. He's much better known for his pop/jazz music www.youtube.com

How interesting
I've traced my family back to Wales on one side, Ireland and UK on the other. There's whispers of Scotland on the Irish/UK side but I haven't found the trace yet. I tend to lean to the lively Celtic music, my feet want to dance, but I love the classics - Beethoven, Schumann, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Bach, Mozart, etc. I guess primarily the romantics but others are intriguing. Rachmaninoff is an interesting play though I prefer the lighter "tunes". I play piano and guitar.

music for the dance of life
enjoy classical music? yes, I find myself cradling actions in music, giving backrubs to Brahms, and creative writing to Shostakovich.

yes
I do enjoy classical music but don't ask me to name what type of this or that because I am very limited in my understanding of music in general

I love classical music
I am especially fond of Beethoven. It's difficult to name a favorite though. I love music of any kind. I don't play an instrument and I can't carry a tune in a bucket, but just listening to music makes everything better in life.

Beethoven

algorithms
Music is in many ways Mathematical. Here is a note by note musical score written in algorithmic form. It shows how deep the great composers thought. The very 'sheet' music for the entire orchestra written by one man from deep within his brain. And this Man is deaf.... www.youtube.com

Life On Mars
The Bowie song you linked to "Life On Mars" is amazing. A friend of mine in England turned me on to it last year. I have never heard it played here in America. Thanks for linking the lyrics!
