Politics & Religion
Recalling Somerset Maugham's dictum that what really makes a story interesting are
politics & religion,
thought that this posting would be more appropriate here, in a P&R thread:

<<Speaking of politics and religion. . .
. . . anyone else familiar with the time the Pope
worked with the Ambassador from a Jewish Kingdom
to coordinate 3 Christian empires and launch a Tenth Crusade
to take Jerusalem away from the Muslims? >>

people always ask me are you rangers or celtic but being a proud man I support my local club
which is St Johnstone. People say to me who is your big club, and I say back to them Scotland.
They question, they keep asking are you protestant or catholic and I say back to them I am my
own man do not judge me by my football team I am St Johnstone.

the Pride of Saint John’s Toun
Few clubs on the planet can claim such a long, devoted, and loyal heritage as St. Johnstone.

Hey, let the blood flow!
I want to invite everybody to come and post you political views here. Keep it clean, but don't pull your punches. I will even chip in every now and again with a nugget of South African politics, but I think with the US election coming up soon, that side of the Atlantic will dominate for now.

It is difficult to refrain from personal attacks, but please try. I will be watching with great interest.

The politics of empire
Being Scottish and then seconded into Britain I understand the politics of empire. When I was schooled they used to show us the map of Britain and how we ruled one third of the world. The Scots are not empire builders we are quite happy in ourselves but show us a battle and we will be there. The English were quite clever so they used the Scots to fight their battles. The Scottish regiments were always first in because we were expendable. The thing is the English thought we would lose then mop up the glory but the Scots won all the time and we took the glory and the English trotted in afterwards. They went why did you get the flag you should all be dead by now; the Scots said to them while you were at the back we were fighting its our flag now. We did not want to suppress nations. We just liked a battle don't blame the Scots for empire we were just a nation that was easy used and expendable.
