ideas that repeat themselves throughout historyI keep observing similarities in all walks of life be it business or politics. For example our most recent war on terror is exactly the same as what happened in the mid C16 century with the Spanish inquisition. Its very you are either with us or against us, if you do not believe in terror you are either mad or a terrorist. Or the South Sea bubble, great depression and the current credit crunch. While these are notable examples I would be keen for other members to share their observations of things that have happened in the past and again in more recent times. |

The only thing I can thing of right now, quickly, is that there seems to be a similar situation with the U.S. and the Middle East currently that was similar to the situation back in the late 1970's when Jimmy Carter was President... violent unrest in the Middle East, American Embassies attacked, American hostages or killings, completely unprepared American government, and government response... Not exactly the same but quite similar. |

In Iran it caused the rise to power of the radical Islamists. In Egypt it caused (or allowed) the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood. THAT is already causing violence in the region. |

democracy and warBut it was curious to see why after 9/11 Iraq was attacked. I guess the guys in charge thought in for a cent in for a dollar. TCB. The rev Desmond Tutu came out the other day and said Blair and Bush should be indited on war crimes in the Hague. While Saddam was an evil dictator there was no cause for war and all the people that died as a result I am inclined to agree that they have a case to answer in a court of law. |
