Send a message to your team.
Why has this function been discontinued? Now, one must address their team via the forums
only.

If this remains a permanent feature, it would be a real drag. I love sending quick messages
from the train. I don't want to start a topic, every time I send a message.

I guarantee this has to do with people harassing GK with complaints... It's like certain club
founders and moderators, who ask GK about threads in their clubs, looking for guidance...
These are the people who are making it difficult to have fun.

Hopefully, this function will revert back to normal use.

We should rename this forum, The Mute Club.

Impact on their servers.
This is the reason that GK has discontinued this function... Teams must mass communicate via
their team forums from this point forward.

I'm going to struggle adapting to this.

The Official Reason: since you all seem so interested.
"Please use the team forum for posting any messages intended for the entire team (click on "Teams" in the main menu). By default, everyone in the team is notified when there is a new post in the team forum (optionally can be turned off by each player) -- so it has exactly the same effect as sending a private message to everyone, but it produces much lower impact on the servers. The problem with sending a private message to the entire team is that we have to send a separate private message to each team member, which often avalanches out of control when the team has many members (replies, etc.). Plus, it's not possible to "unsubscribe" from such team-wide private messages (short of placing the person on one's ignore list). And it often triggered our internal "spam" protection for newer players (we automatically prevent newer players from sending private messages to many different players at the same time to protect everyone from spam)."

No Pre-warning
I received no prior warning this was going to happen, if so i could have send a team message

the old way, explaining this to the team , as some of my players especially the younger

players do not know how to find the the team page or the forum for that matter , so now i

have send a message to each team member individually explaining how to reach the team

page and read the team messages this way in the future.

Trev.

Sorry that was a whoopsie. I noticed it was back, but i clicked the link & it took me to my Team Forum Page which is now a real sh**y stituation!!!! Considering only Premium members can reply in the Team Forum u r going to have segregation in ur troops. Tricky way for GK to introduce New Paid Members to the site

Checkmate,

I agree about the prior warning. As a Cap'n, I don't like these kinds of surprises. I can only assume that GK already knew this would not be a popular implementation and saved themselves from the onslaught of messages in the days leading up to it.

Sad_but_true... Were non premium members able to post messages to their entire team before? I was under the impression that they were unable to use this former function... Not sure.
kneilca2

Pretty sure they could because one of my non-premium members used to send messages to the whole team and so did my previous co-captain before he upgraded his membership.

Although I continue to prefer the option to 'Send Your Team a Message,' in conjunction with the Team Forum, I'm quickly getting used to it and dealing with it better than I thought.

Anyone else? Or should I expect an onslaught of hate mail for even making this suggestion?

Question:
Is EVERYONE who is a part of a team, automatically defaulted to receive messages in the Team Forum.

I noticed there are settings located there in which this option can be unchecked, thereby leaving many unaware that there is anything new to read.

So, is this an automatic feature, unless unsubscribed?
johnclark
19-Jul-12, 12:09

Yes, you can unsubscribe from that annoying automatic team forum notification feature.
mrmarmalade
19-Jul-12, 12:12

True... However, does everyone get these messages automatically, OR do they have to check the box in order to receive them first.
johnclark
19-Jul-12, 15:38

My understanding is that the everyone gets the message, but automatic notification of new messages is optional.

I'm not a big user of messaging the entire team and our members do so even less. So we're not looking at any major impact. It will be interesting to see what folks think of it three months from now.

19-Jul-12, 15:52

Jclark... Just to be clear; these team forum messages that I am sending to the team via the Team Forum are not automatically alerting everyone on my team, unless they have taken the necessary action to accept this alert?

I'm really tired, so I apologize if this is messy and unclear... I'm doing my best to avoid contacting GK direct on this.
johnclark
19-Jul-12, 16:28

Mr. M... That's what I thought I was saying. The message is posted on the forum but unless the that box is checked, players will not get an alert that a new message awaits their attention. Someone on Club Captain already wrote into GK and received a response- something about the team message feature being misused by team members flaming each other and eating up server space or some crap like that. So I'm not too sure another message complaining about it will reverse policy.

Maybe suggesting another enhancement like removing the alert option.... Na.  !!

Thanks, JClark.

Again, apologies for my redundancy. This fella is exhausted n seeing double... Checking out for the evening... Do not go gentle into that good night... Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Okay, I'm going to break trend here and offer up something... I read in the retirement club, that someone believes the disabling of the Send A Message To Your Team function, is eventually going to become an option/upgrade.

Okay, here is my thoughts on this... I pay $60 a year for my membership. I use GK up to 360 days a year; a couple of hours per day on average.

In my opinion (please, don't kill me here AND I am NOT sucking up to management; not my style) this is a really, really cheap means of entertainment.

I spent more than that this morning already.

So, my hope is that this does become an option in the future; I want GK to make money, so I can continue to amuse myself here. It keeps me out of trouble and I have a blast with it... Who would of figured that myself and some other degenerates would actually spend their time on a friggin' chess website. (A previous conversation with SBT)

It is apparent that this function is NOT going to be reinstated by a barrage of messages to GK. They must have known how dissatisfied the Teams would be from the onset.

I am stating it here and LOUDLY, that I would pay for this upgrade, gladly... For all of those who think that I'm ruining it for the rest of us by writing this, I disagree... I just want this function back and think this may be the only avenue as they did indicate that it is overloading the servers.

Perhaps with a price can come some kind of compromise...

Okay, lemme have it.

@mrm
I am not going to let you have it. I am getting responses via the forum from the same team members who communicate with me consistantly. At least some members can ignore me without putting me on ignore. The audience here is pretty much loquacious, garrulous captains and their ilk. Not perhaps completely representative of the GK membership in general. I have already made my peace with the new system and have moved on. I doubt I would pay for the ability to mass message my team anymore, though. I can send individual messages and there is a public forum. What more communication do I really need?
mrmarmalade
21-Jul-12, 06:47

Good point, Knelica... We too have our steady messengers... More than anything else, it's more of a convenience function for me; I just really like sending messages w/out starting a new topic of discussion

I'm adapting to it, but can't help but miss the old function greatly.

Was just an idea.
kneilca2
21-Jul-12, 07:37

@mrm
... and that is the point of this discussion group, not? To float ideas past the collective of wisdom of the hoary-headed captains and their fire-in-the-belly co-captains.

Yeah, I kinda thought I was screwing myself when I started this topic... I don't think it matters, however, as the reason given (servers) cannot be easily overcome...

Maybe I could reapply for a job at GK, which I once did in a drunken stupor, and get things sorted out for us all...

Team Forums
If Gameknot don`t come up with a way to delete postings in our team forums and we now have to communicate with our team members via team forums it`s really going to clutter up this box much more than it is already....
