Other clubs.
When certain club founders and their moderators find themselves as the fodder for so much hate, wouldn't it be a signal for said folks to reflect on the question, "Why do people despise us so much?". This would be the first question I would ask of myself, being a thinking man.
I am NOT referring to Club Captain, just to set the record straight.
Do annoying people know or care they are annoying? Or is it deeper than that? Are we talking sociopathological behaviour? I think JC needs to weigh in on this one. He's a thinking man's thinker.
It's not so much a matter of annoying... We all find people that just don't jive with us for one reason or another... I'm talking about people, in which others feel absolutely compelled to launch attacks upon... If I found myself on defense so often, I would look inward, trying to decipher why so many felt so strongly opposed to me. Certainly, I can agree or disagree with a vast array of folks on social and political issues without detesting their existence... So, why are others so despised, continuing to draw the ire of many?
Maybe this is about mob mentality. You know how chickens will keep pecking at a wounded bird until it's dead? Maybe once the attacks start, others just get carried away into the fray and it takes on a life of its own, like a donnybrook at hockey game (before the "Third-man-in" rule).
It's about insecurity and pseudo intellectualism.
those tend to bring out the mobs and villagers with torches, pitchforks and sticks!
Hmmm.... At times Club forums remind me of the Argument Clinic;) www.youtube.com
Great video JC.
No it wasn't...yes it was... etc. etc. LOL!
It's like the club founder, "teaching" disaster who once educated us on the Holocaust by stating, "Hitler had a mother. Please understand he was only 99.9% bad.". Lol... Sorry all... The stupidity and arrogance of some is so amusing and ultimately sad.
Still, why is this person and their friends so detested? Is it because the rest of us are "not ready" for tha truth? Are we dealing with enlightened scholars?
Is wishing death on a 70 year old man, the most effective way of communicating differing ideologies? At what point does GK step in and deal with a trending group of losers?
This isn't about a club forum, but the general GK forum.... I have one guy who's name begins with "M"who tends to what I call "stalk" me around from time to time and attempt to belittle everything I say in the forums and/or what I write in my profile, and its based upon either his insecurities or some kind of superiority complex like he is some kind of ultimate chess trainer or something.Ridiculous.He will cut down American chess players as "weak".Then he will say to me that my rating is nothing because it is a GK rating.I clearly point out in my profile and can prove that I have an OTB rating of over 2400,yet that dosen't alter his knife thrusts, even though his OTB rating is like 2100+.Then he goes on in the forums to state...so you played Fischer....well,thats no big deal, ect ect.Did I brag about playing Fischer?....no.But see,he trys to set it up "in his mind"that way! Then other times he will state what is called "stat"facts about one of my pet defenses....the Basman.I mention that I have a 95% win ratio using the Basman and its true. But I also mention its in blitz, not the long corresp games. That makes a big difference. The he will state, either i'm playing complete beginners or i'm a liar.So there goes the knife stabs again, but he convienently overlooks the facts that blitz stats and long correp or regular OTB stats are independenly different from one another. There are,for example, many techniques that can be used in online blitz in a 2 or 3 minute sudden death game, even down to your mouse design that can make you a superior winning player, even against 2100-2200 players in online blitz...even with Basman defenses or other weak opening defenses. So stats have nothing to do(or alot less) with how well one can perform in corresp blitz as opposed to the stats on the Basman in general which are based upon OTB games. On other occassions he would state that telling a beginner to look at chess openings is next to criminal. And this is a chess instructor?ha,ha...what a joke! There is not the slightest thing wrong with having any beginner simply taking a "look" at chess openings.Yes,perhaps deeply studying openings before studying various tactics and positional study is no good. But this guy tends to stretch words in my mouth. You all know the type, right? So many knife stabs, yet its all based upon either jealousy, insecurity,or some kind of superiority complex, atleast as far as i can see!

@IHA: So why do you continue talking with the guy? I would have put him on Ignore a long time ago. "Misery is optional." @mr.M: I don't quite follow. Is this "detested" person communicating directly with you or is it that you see what he and his followers are doing in other venues, and you don't like it?
Directly with me? Oh no. They don't dare mess with me... I read many of the clubs, and am only stating the obvious.
John, Placing someone on the ignore list does not prevent that same person from making comments in the forums, that only prevents him from playing direct challenge games. So he is not messaging me.The forum chat was between another player and me,not him.But he "cuts in" and trys to "slice"every sentence I write. In addition I do not "continue"to talk to this guy.He stalked me twice in the general forums and its sporatic. So,I defend myself a small bit, then stop.Logic does not prevail with someone who is out for you,so I can explain the facts, but it does no good against deaf ears and blind eyes.As to his "followers"he has none except perhaps one 1200 player who I feel sorry for, since he has,to some extent, already spread some of his cancer to open learning eyes that are vulnerable. It just amazes me how someone has no respect for other angles of looking at a chess issue or chess venture and thinks that there is only one way or solution to such an issue.Any diciplined chess instructor would realize that pupils are not necessarily to be taught the same identical way...his way or the highway....if you get my drift. So John,no one has "ganged up"on me as was stated elsewhere, but sometimes it becomes necessary to tell someone to shut the F up,but say it in other ways! Oh,just in case mrmarmalade...it is NOT you, just incase you might think that! The "M" is someone else!
@ ihavearrived... I will ask Mistee to stop harassing you. Anyway, the initial point has been lost, but that's okay... It has morphed into a better discussion. This is the finest club on GK. Good "stuff" y'all..
And what was the point, mr.M?
@JClark... I never saw that clip. That was great! Thanks, and well placed, sir.
The point, JClark, is that I'm very fond of beer, chess, women, classic rock and warm weather. Everything else I write is a lie.
I had a feeling that was it. Well done, mr.M!
Always rare, my friend. Overcooking red meat is a crime.
I'm having Elk meat this weekend!
When I was in Wyoming a couple years ago I made the mistake of eating something called "Hottern Hell Elk Stick" Looked like a Slim Jim UGH
MrM
MrM - It's a shame those things aren't as fond of you. Arrived - Did you 'get' that elk yourself?

When I was young, my uncle Pete used to always keep us in venison. He'd go out and get his limit of deer, mule and white tail. I think there is a tag you get, and when you bag a deer, you put the tag in its ear. Well, there was always one "extra" or more hanging in our garage in the fall. These never had tags. My mom would be up most of the night, hand-grinding it into sausage. We'd have roasts and ribs, too, done in the oven, often with a sweet-and-sour sauce. Yum!
Hunting beyond ones "tags" is pretty common everywhere, me thinks... I know guys who eat deer on a year round basis in New Jersey... They don't even leave the house... The deer are walking thru their driveways... BOOM. Deer jerky for snackin'... I don't think I would do this, but it's common... By the way, I still have a freezer full of venison and venison sausage from last Autumn. My father goes every year and always gets one. (or three.) Dad barely left Washington alive last year on an Elk hunt with family... Had a heart attack in the woods... Somehow, he survived a flight home and had a triple bypass the next morning. Now, he's stronger than ever and heading back in either Oct or Nov. I may go with him. If so, I'm gonna look up Thumper and whip his ass.
y'all are makin' me hungry. Fresh game is the best!
Well shiver me timbers! A woman who likes fresh game in our club! Outstanding! U are more rugged than even I. (Thumper sez I'm macho!) I'm more a fisherman... I love to shoot, but just don't have the time to get licensed for game... I REALLY want to go Turkey hunting, BADLY... How I relish the idea of blasting a stupid turkey head to smithereens with a 12 gauge. (P.S. Bearz... Please don't freak out over this topic...)
