brianinpdx 20-Jan-13, 10:20	Damned if you DO [***] Damned if you DONT You all probably remember several months back GK pushed me up form the Int tournament into the ADV category because my rank hit 1504 (4 pts above the max). Only thing was - at the time of the round 2, my rank sank to 1380 or so. Well under the 1500 rank ceiling. So that 2nd round in the ADV I managed to win a few games against superior players. Amazingly it worked out to be a 3 way tie and we all got promoted to the 3rd round. Now the 3rd round began a week ago - I took a quick skim of the people 1780 /1655 / 1590 and me at 1410. What the heck, I've come this far, right? Basically I'm gonna get whooped. But maybe it will be a learning thing. Here's the shocking bit: so far, I've managed to splash one 1655 guy. And then the 1590 guy. WOW! I'd never had thought I had it in me. I'M PRETTY STOKED! Although I'm very tentative with the 1870 guy. But hey... anything can happen I guess. Now the bad part: This morning I responded to 2 team challenges. Both declined me in the lineup because I'm to strong. Wait a second here folks, before this morning I was pretty evenly matched in the 20 or so team games.... but now I'm a Ringer? W/T/H???? I'm Damned either way.... Happy sunday club! -Brian

pennsylvaniadan 24-Jan-13, 06:16	I only play in tournaments from special invites or Club tournaments anymore. In open tournaments, always was leery of wins against much higher rated players. Wasn't really sure if I was getting their best game. I know I've made stupid blunders against lower rated players but with my rating, that's going to happen. When I receive a like blunder from a player with a rating 200+ points above mine, I just wonder if the game is being tanked for rating purposes. The win feels empty---I've played so many games now, that I pretty much know which players are willing to give me a lesson by beating me up and I appreciate it.---lol
brianinpdx 24-Jan-13, 09:22	@ Dan - yea, I know what you mean. Seems like in tournament play there is always crazy sleepers in the first round. If one can manage to wade thru it and win out, by the time you hit round 2-3-4-5 its legit people that all want to win. This is the 3rd round of the ADV section. And honestly my competition is pretty tough. I'm getting handed an a/s/s/ whooping by the 1780 player. I managed to beat a 1625(~) 2x and trade games with another 1600's guy. I think all in all I might wini 4 of the 8 games? I'd be stoked if it plays out like that. It's been a good learning experience @SBT bite me! haha.
