actuallyHowever I have another theory as to why we are so divided. The Internet. Try reading any article that allows comments. I do mean ANY article. You might be reading about the opening of Batman and some nut job says its somehow related to the NRA. Then you have the Colorado shooting. This was an unfortunate event for anyone. Somehow someone will blame a political party. Things become ravenous and soon you actually see a particular party responsible for some theater deaths. Soon people begin to view the other party as terrorist or robbers of the constitution, Nazis, global warming deniers etc. We are all just insignificant people with opinions but we let the opinions of others drive us mad. It becomes hatred. Think about it. Before the net did you have such strong feelings? Before you knew how different some believed than you did you let it bother you? I didn't. This is just a theory. what do you guys think? |

Good point...We jump to conclusions almost like mobs. And perhaps that is what we are becoming, Political Mobs. That are controlled by small incidents and people that incite us to anger or frustration and one spark sends people over the top. On top of that, I will throw this out. I was in California again this last week and I will be there again this week. People are out of work. Blame whom ever you will but there is an underlying pain that I see in Californians eyes as they hurt for their families and look for work that is not there. They have been promised a lot. And perhaps this brings it back to politics, but, both sides do it. They have been told that there are solutions and nobody is stepping up. Instead people are getting in their way. And I see frustration and anger and pain in their faces. And this is pushing people over the edge like a tinder box. They are ready to explode. I see it. They just need some stupid thing. It might be small but we are unprepared to respond as a country. And its coming. Good point stinky dok |

ThumperI agree that the Internet does allow ideas to spread quickly and easily. That can be good and bad, depending on who is spewing the idea and whether it be true or not. However, I view it as mostly good because it allow for truth to spread quickly and dampen any lying fires that may erupt... remember the Dan Rather "Rathergate" scandal that cost him his job AND national credibility? Personally, I think these forums are excellent for learning new ideas and teaching me how to respond to bad ideas. I have learned a lot... mostly from those with different political ideas than mine. What's to be learned by agreeing with everybody and having the same ideas? |

My issue in 1A, had to do with those intellectual posers, acting as if they knew what they wanted or had any understanding of international politics and finance... I could not have any lower opinion of folks as the two main culprits over there, and I'm not referring to DM... He is clear in his thinking, however much I find him extremely useless. I rarely agree with Softaire; for instance, recently he wrote something regarding Japan's lack of invasion upon U.S. shores during WWII due to the fact that we have/had a heavily armed citizenry. I really don't think the Japanese commanders gave this any consideration at all, to put it mildly., Softaire does NOT profess to have all the answers, however, unlike his detractors who have NONE... He is fighting the most unoriginal pack of monkeys as I've ever witnessed. It is simple to bait a forum with assorted topics and simply lay in wait for someone else to do the heavy lifting of actually reading and responding... I have seen some fools in my time; none worse than those insecure, confused, illogical mop heads. |

To continue: it is of my opinion that folks like Softaire, and some others, are advancing conversations, whereas others continue to point at the elephant in the room... Everyone is aware how unfair, sad and disturbing many situations are. Certain folks will apply hysterical logic in order to make their positions felt... Softaire approaches with calm. Again, I cannot pay another greater homage. |

I often argue like crazy with softy for example, but at least we are usually open and honest about our differing views! Thanks for the invite, I'm sure things will be reasonably feisty here too, eventually. I will say that many (if not most) of my posts are in the realm of 'questions seeking answers' rather than statements. Some (such as softy) appear to understand that. Judging by the membership here so far (many of who I respect quite highly), hopefully some great discussions will ensue without the bickering. |

Why would this surprise you or cause any pause for disappointment? Are these things not overwhelmingly apparent? Certainly, unverified third party hearsay cannot be one's only sense on these matters. |
