Smarter than a pilot?
Is a 'high' chess rating indicative of superior intelligence or does it mean that individual has a knack for moving the chess pieces around? Is someone who moves chess pieces around well more intelligent than an Journeyman Electrician, an A&P cert Aircraft Mechanic or Licensed Attorney?

I can tell you have looked at my rating.

I think G.B. Shaw said that chess is something people do to make themselves feel clever.

I prefer to think that someone who moves chess pieces around better than me is "lucky"!
I am quite often unlucky at chess. A lot of my opponents have been lucky!

(and that's sucky)

Softy ...
... I agree with Softy on this one!

Unfortunately bad luck is not a legal basis for a case of disparate impact and affirmative remedies. I have been very lucky with softaire so far. I hope it continues...

You were NOT so lucky last time. I think this is calls for a rematch to settle the issue of who is luckiest! May the luckiest guy win!

Neither of you are as dumb as some would choose to believe from your rating, though in DM's case this may be an anomaly.

I think DM has allowed his rating to slide in order to sucker me in to a rematch. But I feel lucky today! I feel so lucky in fact that I'll be playing him with one hand tied behind my back!

t has more to do with playing on a smart phone. but test your luck. if romney still has a chance to win, however slim, so do you

How the big dog eats
I think pilots are among our smartest and most intelligent. Not only are they adept at maths and sciences (including hydraulics, avionics, pneumatics, aeronautics, atmospheric, propulsion, gravitational, geography, navigation, metallurgical, psychology, physiology and communication among others), they accurately and quickly apply them under great personal stress and potentially life threatening conditions as a matter of course. This results in a balanced understanding and judgement of application.

Who else can match the skill sets and overall knowledge?

Speaking of Pilots...
Back in the day, when I owned Pacific Air Charter here in San Diego, we had several foreign born pilots... mostly from Sweden, Holland, and Norway. (It was way before Al Queada and 9/11).

One of my young, naive pilots (from Holland) decided (since we were located in San Diego and very close to TJ) to get on a bus tour (on his day off) and go see Tijuana, Mexico. So he did.

But he forgot to bring along with him his passport, or his green card or whatever he needed that day in order to get back into the country. He called my partner and despite peas from us, customs could not/would not let him back in.

I think he lost about a weeks flying and pay as he had to fly back to Holland, do some paperwork, and then come back into the U.S.

So, not all pilots are quite as smart as Thumper would like to think! But, they make good stories.

I am currently the lowest rated player in my League Division. (D2).

I've achieved a long time goal of mine by doing that.

Guess I shouldn't have played DM with one of my hands tied behind my back. It caused me to be unlucky. I told him that he should go to Las Vegas.

(it was just my bad luck to make a terrible move)

And DM...
Don't go around telling anyone that "you got lucky with me"!
