Romney wants to cut or scale back public subsidies to organizations that obviously don't need the money it in order to save or redirect those funds more effectively to organizations who do need it. A lot's changed since yesterday. Not only did President Obama decide to make Big Bird another one of his campaign wedge issues, but overnight polls tightened considerably in OH, VA, and FL. This means that Big Bird's social workers at PBS got Barack's back today by howling like the spoiled, entitled welfare queens they really are: “Governor Romney does not understand the value the American people place on public broadcasting and the outstanding return on investment the system delivers to our nation,” it said. “Elimination of funding would have virtually no impact on the nation’s debt. Yet the loss to the American public would be devastating. Did you get that -- "Devastating." Evil Romney's killing Big Bird! He's murdering Big Bird! But devastating to who exactly -- a Bird that takes in a cool $50 million a year? Here's the math: Big Bird makes at least $50 million a year and yet our government is still borrowing somewhere around a half Billion dollars of our grandchildren's money from China every year to fund Big Bird's sugar daddy, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Is there some sort of affirmative action program I'm unaware of, where puppets that only make $50 million per year are subsidized by the taxpayers to ensure they make the same "fair share" as, say, the Muppets? And how do the Muppets feel about being discriminated against -- being forced to make it out there without taxpayer help in the big bad free market? Cartoon characters like "The Simpsons" must be wondering why they're not enjoying all that corporate welfare. Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny and American Dad must be furious to see the money they work so hard to make taken by the government and redistributed to loafers like Big Bird to make them "equally wealthy." Thanks for giving us a silver lining from the debates, an issue that works well with our base. The big question of the election will be, will we allow the mean righties to kill Big Bird or will we save him from execution for future generations? I say, save the Bird!
chaz5 06-Oct-12, 11:57	... Romney's gaffe on the "Big Bird" issue is precisely why he does not give specifics or detail about his other intentions. This is why it's easy for Independents to lean left once again. That said, it is also prudent to scale back government funding for those entities that can survive on their own. We don't have to get rid of Big Bird, just create a plan to reduce the subsidizing of these kinds of programs eventually withdrawing from them altogether over time. It could be done on a bipartisan basis.

astinkyfart 06-Oct-12, 14:31	I like how the left keeps saying Romney doesn't give specifics. He outlined each and everything he was going to do, even numbering the list. Obama simply stammered and look confused but that's enough? That's the substance the left speaks of?
chaz5 06-Oct-12, 16:40	... every time Romney gives a "specific" he gets trounced by the Left. Obama has been getting trounced by the Right for his unfulfilled promises. Let's not be just one-sided here. There's lots of material to go around.
astinkyfart 06-Oct-12, 17:01	Chaz I have to be one sided as when making the statement about specifics it comes from the left. Although they have required none from Obama they demand them from Romney. It seems one sided to me already in that aspect.
