New Threats to Riot if Obama Loses Election, Buzz explodes across web

Paul Joseph Watson

October 15, 2012

Despite the issue receiving national media attention, Obama supporters continue to threaten to riot if Mitt Romney wins the presidential election, raising the prospect of civil unrest if Obama fails to secure a second term.

The new threats continue to dominate Twitter and the vast majority make no reference to press coverage of the issue over the last week, illustrating the fact that they are a legitimate expression of how many Obama voters plan to respond if Romney comes out on top, and not merely a reaction to media hype.

An Infowars.com story written by Michael Snyder which was picked up by the Drudge Report over the weekend and has since gone viral documented how Twitter was flooded with messages from Obama supporters threatening to riot, a sign that “whichever side loses this election will accuse the other side of stealing the election.”

The story was subsequently picked up by innumerable media outlets. Highly respected economist and philosopher Thomas Sowell also voiced his concerns that race riots could ensue if Obama is not re-elected.

Checking Twitter feeds this morning, we discovered that threats to riot on behalf of Obama supporters are still flooding in, with the users seemingly unaware of the fact that the media has now picked up on the buzz.

We checked the Twitter accounts and virtually all of them are owned by people who have made hundreds or thousands of previous tweets, proving they are genuine accounts and not fakes.

I always question the credibility of anything I read on Infowars.com. Especially when the best quotes they can find come from tweeters such as "@Puffdaniels" and "@DickSlapYoMama."

Softaire after years of mockery are you finally admiting there is a war?   This is simply right wing propaganda. I can find equal threats from right wingers. You guys apparently want war so you can restore "law and order", same ol, same ol.. You dismiss compromise because you expect to win. But Europe will be a cake walk compared to here if you try. You have been warned.

Righties, please refresh yourself on the above incident before you begin your attacks.

For those who need a little background on this thread's article, Inforwars is a website run by "conspiracy theorist" Alex Jones, based in Austin, Texas, or, as he likes to refer to himself as, a "truther." Any conspiracy--911, Bohemian Grove, fluoride in the water, the police state--he believes it. He's been preaching the end of days for years. Therefore, anything you read from his website (he also has another called PrisonPlanet) needs to be fact checked thoroughly.

The Inforwars article claims that there will be mass riots from the left wing if Obama is re-elected, and by left wing they of course mean DickSlapYoMama and Puffdaniels. Very credible. So credible and so threatening in fact that you seem to have completely forgotten about the aforementioned [Republican] official Tom Head, coincidentally also from Texas, who threatened that civil war would break out in the event that Obama was re-elected and said he intended to build up a trained militia to guard the county against this terrible black dictator's UN troops. But I hate to bring this up because it's nothing to worry about. Elected official Tom Head's threats of civil war are a lot less serious than DickSlapYoMama's threat that "ppl riot."

Thank god we have guys like Alex Jones and Paul Joseph Watson looking out for the REAL threats.

Who has ever attacked you here? Because you're a kid I'm sure you're tied into tweets, facebook and such. Am I right? What do you know about flashmobs and wildings and similar activities and the use of those mediums to promote and coordinate these 'activities'? Are you trying to sell that it's nothing because it's easy to marginalize one of sources who has flagged the activity? Are you saying, not true, not happening?

... Cody is practicing his presentation skills. He's looking at all the behaviors here he can see. He may or may not be right, but he's trying to join the conversation.

As an aside, conspiracy theorists are often easy targets for dismissal as their evidence is usually thinly-based or nonexistent ... not always, mind you ... so we do need to look skeptically at those things that need to be scrutinized carefully.

I will try to address your post as thoroughly as possible.

No one has ever attacked me in the forums, because I have only posted a handful of times. However, though I comment little I have been reading most of the postings for several months now, and a pervading habit amongst regulars has been to personally attack or insult the individual, with or without providing evidence against their claims. Everyone is obsessed with labels, and whether they identify with the left or right, Republicans or Democrats, liberals or conservatives. There are many yellow dog Democrats and die-hard Republicans that immediately side with whichever party they identify with no matter what the occurrence because it gives them a sense of belonging: there are people who will be against Obama no matter what he does and some who will be against Romney no matter what he does. You may believe yourself above this, and may rightly be, but you cannot deny that this is the mentality of many. Someone publishes a right-biased article? "That slick git! More right-wing propaganda. You ignorant zombie!" Somebody publishes a left-leaning article? "You liberals will do anything." It is this kind of language that I have observed over the past several months that made my statement necessary, because I wanted those with follow-up comments to be sure to actually read my CNN article before they began their biased retorts that I was sympathising with the left.

I have a Twitter account as well as a Facebook account, both of which I check regularly. Because of your comment addressing me as an individual rather than an argument ("Because you're a kid..."), I will assume you want an answer based on my personal experiences with these sites and will not use outside data. Twitter is a site comprised of millions of short comments (less than 140 characters each). As such, coherence is virtually impossible and organising any event through Twitter would be even more improbable. I hold Facebook to be equally as unlikely in aiding organisation, especially from users such as "@SomeRecklessKid" and "<-ThisNigga". This is not to say that there might not be a few scattered riots, but there is no way to hold Twitter accountable; in this event small scale riots would happen with or without Twitter. You know what is much easier to organise? Militias. Especially under the direction of an emergency management coordinator like Tom Head. So while threats to riot in 140 characters or less remains speculative and may or may not ever materialise and is unlikely to ever pose a serious threat to the well being of the nation, the official statements of an elected official with a serious agenda seems to be much more concrete. I say we need to keep an eye on both Tom Head and Fuzzy G., equally--although, if you ask me, my money is on Tom Head.

Nor am I trying to dismiss the claims brought up in this article based solely on the credibility of its source, although I have seen many of Alex Jones' documentaries and listened to a few of his radio talk shows. I would recommend watching Dark Secrets Inside Bohemian Grove; Police State I, II, III, and IV; 911 Road to Tyranny; Matrix of Evil; Endgame; Terrorstorm; and Loose Change. I will admit that I quite enjoy a bit of Alex Jones, albeit he is an unparalleled spout of right-wing Christian propaganda.

As for Chaz, I appreciate and admit wholeheartedly that I am merely "practicing my presentation skills," regardless of whether I actually believe viewpoints I may occasionally defend or entertain.

My reference to you as a kid was not meant as an attempted slight or insult, rather the opposite. I was asking for your more knowledgeable opinion. Your generation, as a whole, is far more familiar with and adept at using these tools and resources than mine are. I've been under the impression that social networking has been used to coordinate and facilitate an assortment of nefarious activities and gatherings including 'flashmobs', smash and grabs, gang assaults, etc. Is this an accurate impression?

If you note, this club will not tolerate the personal smears and attacks that are so prevalent in others. That's not to say that no one gets their tail twisted, but the manner in which that happens is far different. Opposing viewpoints really ARE encouraged here and you will not be called a bunch of vile names by someone with a different perspective.

Thumper my good sir!
I did not take it as an insult. I apologise for the stiff language, as I was trying to make sure I covered all the questions you raised. I only meant to say that I recognised you asking about my personal experiences with social networking and attempted to answer your questions as such.

Twitter is used for short bursts and one-liners and is largely diminishing the IQ of my generation as a whole. I very much believe it would be nigh impossible to organise anything via Twitter on any significant scale.

Facebook would much easier to organise an event or gather like-minded people, but not really. In my personal opinion, it would still be very difficult to raise a call to action using any mainstream social networking site. This isn't to say it can't or doesn't happen, but I seriously doubt these claims are anything to worry about.

... so ... are there really any viable threats to riot? Will one side, or the other, become so disenfranchised to retaliate? Outside of a skirmish or two maybe from those disappointed, is this something to fear right now?

Personally, I can "feel" both fear and profound disappointment among some folks I talk to ... usually the skeptics are heard first, after all ... yet, there are also deep feelings of patriotism, opportunity, and gratitude. The glass is half full for those who know the glass is half full.
