Obama sends 147 million to Hamas run Gaza
Against GOP objections, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has announced that the Obama administration is sending $147 million in funding to the West Bank and Hamas-run Gaza.
Despite a “hold by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla.,” the administration is arguing the money needs to be sent on humanitarian grounds. They did not, however, explain how they plan to force Hamas to use the money for humanitarian purposes.

And while “administrations generally do not disburse funding over the objections of lawmakers on relevant committees,” those associated with Obama have proven more than willing to sidestep Congress to place American tax-dollars in the hands of their friends throughout the world. It was, after all, just last month that the administration circumvented Congress and gave $1.5 billion in aid to the Muslim Brotherhood-run Egyptian government.

The bottom line is that President Obama, who claims he will act if Congress refuses to act domestically, has now begun applying that same philosophy to international affairs. And the problem with this is that the Founding Fathers placed many of our nation’s purse strings in the hands of Congress in order to place a check on executive power. Thus the solution for an impasse between the legislators and the executive branch is to either seek compromise or for one governmental branch to convince the other of the validity of their argument.

But the solution isn’t for the president to bypass Congress and send money to whomever he wishes, whenever he wishes, with impunity.

On another note, I wonder if Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu feels a bit taken aback by all this? After all, the Obama administration got Israel to promise not to bomb Iran until after our presidential elections, right before they announced this aid to Hamas.

Im surprised
No one cares one way or another about this?

The congress is dysfunctional and incompetent. No president lets those idiots set foreign policy. So no I don't care. Diplomacy is far beyond the skills of those posers.

Stinky
People care but there is so much "stuff" going on with this administration that it is almost impossible to keep up. It seems the ruling class is ignoring the Constitution again... we live in a dictatorship.

The constitution does not require the other branches of government to sit by as congress which everyone knows is incompetent fiddles while Rome burns and creates diplomatic chaos to get a few votes back home. That is part of protecting the constitution.

No, you are wrong.

The Constitution has spelled out quite clearly the duties, privileges, responsibilities and role of the various branches. One branch is not to assume the duties or role of another branch.

But, of course, our freedoms and rights are dependent on the government all following the rules of the Constitution. That is why conservatives are so concerned... this administration is not following those rules.

So
We are all ok with Hamas receiving aid from the U.S.? I think this is a disgrace and a slap in the face to every soldier that died fighting terrorism also to our allies. We have truly become the dumbest country on the planet trying to make everyone like us. Its sickening.

The aid is not for Hamas it is for the people of gaza. Leave diplomacy to diplomats in a dangerous world.

DM
I knew that would be your statement. Who receives the money to distribute it?

Softie
Even though DM is obviously and frequently (usually) wrong, he works hard trying to give his propaganda the form and appearance of truth.
I don't know everything about everything like the libs try to convince people they do, but I do know a few things and am considered an expert in a couple. Those areas where my knowledge is excessive (and DM fallacious tries fake knowledge or understanding), informs me that his constant chirping has little to do with truth and everything to do with promoting his ideology. In my mind, that leaves suspect every other post where he tries feign expertise, telling people 'what's up' or 'this is how it is' or 'this is what should happen', etc..

The source for this story is the discredited Brietbart, and the issue goes back to April anyway. Aid does NOT go directly to Hamas; and aid has been flowing since the Bush years. This story was an election year attempt to scare Jewish voters.

Congress has now succeeded in threatening Egypt, which will have the unified support of the Muslim world including Turkey which now considers Israel a terrorist state. Enemies will gladly pick up the slack for any aid we cut off. Sadly domestic politics are putting the USA on a collision course with most of the world and we will come out the loser.

Thumper's "expertise" is in right wing nonsense in a backward red area of a progressive state, so of course I am "wrong" in his twilight zone. I consider the source.

There is no date on the OP, and no source, so no comment.

Is dm right that it is from Breitbart and from April?

April 13 2012 brietbart article to be precise. Usual distortion of fact.
No mention of reasons why aid going back to bush or when Obama held up aid when Hamas would not allow audit of charities. Ongoing campaign of misinformation.

IF its an older article I did not post it to mislead. I found it yesterday and posted it yesterday. Either way I dont think we should send Hamas money. Doesnt matter if its Bush or Obama.

Neither do I but the situation is so complicated by many factors. Who decided, who signed off on it, when it was done, etc, etc.

Having said that, I believe the US gives massive amounts of money (and arms) to the Israeli's as well.

In light of recent events (past few months) in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip that include even more land being taken for Israeli's from the Palestinians, more restrictions on Palestinian movements, the tearing down of so called 'illegal' fresh water facilities (funded by Europeans) in Palestinian areas, I think their funding should be looked at a little more closely as well. All it takes is a good look at the geographical changes in these areas to see what the Israeli's are actually doing to the Palestinian people.

I had to laugh when Obama said (the other day) that no nation would be happy with missile attacks from outside (speaking about the rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip), immediately after that little speech someone posted a photograph of an American 'drone' releasing missiles into Pakistan. It's ok when it suits any particular administration's agenda, and terrorism when it doesn't...........And the world turns!

The USA faces a losing game in the Middle East. Long term peace is not in the cards. Neither the one state or two state solution is stable. Israel lost good relations with turkey, the last friend it had in the region. The money the USA sends is widely seen as a fig leaf and bribe. Our enemies relish and exploit our ties to one of the leas popular nations on earth and how powerless a peace process is. But domestic politics are what they are and Obama is simply buying time like all recent presidents hoping for a miracle. Not likely.
