Poll: GOP too extreme
53% of Americans now say the GOP is too extreme, not mainstream. Whereas 57% consider dems mainstream. Obama approval is back up to 53%. We must continue to pressure the GOP in areas where they are seen as extremist to expose that they are out of touch. Hardball tactics are justified in those areas to ensure the will of the people is carried out.

"Hardball tactics are justified in those areas to ensure the will of the people is carried out."

So, the will of 49% of the people doesn't count anymore? Ignore them and do what you want?

That flies in the face of the intent of our entire government... the intent of our laws, our Constitution, and our legal interpretations is to allow majority rule with protections for the minority from the tyranny of the majority.

Your philosophy was written about by Karl Marx and was implemented by Lenin, Stalin, and Mao to name a few.

dm ...
... I understand your left-stealth attitude, but I disagree on one important point. The American public who now favor Dems do not favor the party for everything they stand for ... rather they are reacting to the GOP's blockade politics of the last decade. If the Dems were truly stealthy, then they would want to try on the cloak of compromise and cooperation. This would rally some of those old RINOs for one, and would mollify the left leaning Centrists from going back to the GOP when they get their demographics straightened out. Otherwise, the far Left is no higher quality than the far right.

I am only talking about hardball in areas where there is a clear mandate for example the rich paying a fairer share. I favor compromise in principle. The party closest to the center should win.

The key concept here is "too extreme".
That means refusal to reasonably compromise, rigidly clinging to extreme positions, stonewalling and destructive delaying tactics, purging moderates, etc. You employ hardball tactics as a matter of course. So where you are too extreme and destructive outside of the mainstream, use of hardball tactics may be needed. The moderate majority has rights too--tyranny of the minority is not acceptable either!

too extreme
If you think the government should not spend more than it earns, you are extreme.

If you think government should encourage business and jobs rather than hinder them with excessive regulation, you are extreme.

If you think taxes are too high, because spending is too high, you are extreme.

If you think the banning of guns and the nullification of the 2nd amendment is a bad idea, you are extreme.

If you think giving citizenship to 12-20 million illegal aliens and not protecting the borders from invasion is a bad idea, you are extreme.

If you think it is a bad idea for the government to be able to tell you (force you) to buy whatever they decide you must buy, you are an extremist.

If you think it a bad idea that the government can allow and encourage sales of guns to Mexican drug cartels, you are an extremist.
