suggestion - walkers ask masters for a challenge
A basic of that club was that a walker would "ask" a master to challenge them. I think this would work just fine in this club, the idea being that any member under 2000 could ask for a challenge from any member over 2000.
Of course, there would need to be a topic titled "Ways to Participate" (or FAQ, or Rulez, or Club Operating Instructions, or whatever) where the various options are listed and explained.
Ways to Participate:
2) Mentor Groups
3) Vote Games
4) Play vs Master (walker asks master for challenge)
Then there would be a brief explanation of how to pursue each of these options.
This ask-for-a-challenge option would mean that anyone: new, not in an MT, in a quiet group, not up for the vote game, etc would always have an option to participate.
Of course anyone can request a challenge from anyone now. But formalizing the idea in a forum topic might prompt more players to take advantage of the opportunity. This worked great in the old club and I hope it will continue here.
NOTE: TALKING THE TALK
"Talking the Talk" means that lower rated players advertise themselves and their great phenomenal skills on this forum in what is eventually a humorous challenge to the "Masters", either to all "Masters" collectively, or then to an individual one. This is followed by a response by the "Master", effectively a challenge for a game where the "Master" plays black and in which the lower rated player now has to "fulfil his promises" by "Walking the Walk". The game is then annotated by the lower rated player, and posted here so that others can comment on it.
This is really at the heart of the idea behind the Club, viz. to give the opportunity for lower rated players to play against "Masters" and get a maximum teaching experience by having to annotate the game and receive comments on the annotation.
