black plays 17....Ng7.White plays 18.Rh3
It seems as if for the moment that is,that black has found a way to defend himself. But do you remember the note before on the e5 advanced outpost? That Helicopter assault Squadron?
The order is given. 19.Nxg6!.
receiving its orders the Helicopter squadron flies over to g6 and smashes another section in Blacks defenses.White has now sacrificed 2-major pieces.
black plays 19.fxg6 (compulsory)
and White plays 20.Qxg6 ch. Black then plays his last card with 20....Nhg7. The Tomb is now closing over Blacks head.
21.Rh8 ch! the Coup de grĂ¢ce
Three pieces sacked now. This one is called a 'displacement' sacrifice. In order to gain a tempi with a check,White has to get the black king on h8.
black plays 21....Kxh8 and white plays 22.Qh6 ch.Thus gaining his tempi.
black plays 22....Kg8 and White plays 23.g6
and Black resigns as he cannot avoid mate in at most 2-moves. But look at the final position. White has given as a sacrifice to the God of War, all but one of his King side battle formations!! His Queen side elements remain in place, unused and not needed. Blacks once promising flank attack lay withering on the vine. These strategic and tactical concepts can be used in all Openings. They are Universal. Master them...and you master the game of chess.

Janet - this is very interesting!
Hi Janet! After reading your thread I am considering making Welcome MT Part 6 into a themed Stonewall Attack - we just need to get those new members coming in! Kind regards Joanne
thank you Joanne
i just hope some members read and study it. I know it will help them. Maybe 'easy19' who arranged a stonewall tourney before, can collaborate with you in such an endeavor.
