three to ponder....
1) you throw away the outside and cook the inside. then you eat the outside and throw away the inside. what did you eat?

2) what can run but never walks, has a mouth but never talks, has a head but never weeps, has a bed but never sleeps?

3)
if you break me,
i do not stop working.
if you touch me,
i may be snared.
if you lose me,
nothing will matter.
what am i?

i can point the way;
when I am empty,
nothing moves me.
i have two skins,
one without and one within.

Twould be a glove.

I've got a couple....

I know a word of letters three. Add two, and fewer there will be.

Here's one that I learned a while ago... I never would have known were it not in context...

Sir, I bear a rhyme excelling In mystic force and magic spelling Celestial sprites elucidate All my own striving can't relate.

Here's one not unlike the first on this thread...

An evil witch has been taking ladies and turning them into flowers. She had collected over a thousand young women. One day, a man who's wife had been taken came to the witch and sayed he'd do anything just to have her back. The witch agreed that if he worked for her all day that he would be able to spend nights with her, and she would become a flower again as soon as sunrise came. So he did this for a while, he would do endless chores for the witch all day, and as soon as 10:00 came around he would be able to see his wife again. He would then fall asleep around 12:00 every night, and when he woke up at 8 she would be gone.
One day he aproached the witch again. He said he would do anything to have her back forever. The witch decided to make him a deal. He would see her one last time that night, and if he could pick witch flower was his wife, he would never have to work for her again and she would set all of the women free, never again to enslave anyone. Of course, being a which, and treasuring her collection greatly, she slipped a sleeping pill into his drink. That night he met up with his wife at 10, but fell asleep by 10:30. The witch came by again at sunrise, collected the flower, and returned it to the collection. Later, when the man awoke, he went out into the garden, pointed to a flower, and said "that one."
The witch kept her promise, setting all of the women free and never turning anyone into a flower again.
How did he know?
Sorry that was so long...

And one more for the road...

A man had been going around stealing the kings royal jewels. He held a town meeting. He gave everyone a stick, told them to place it under their pillows, and that the sticks, being magic, would grow two inches if the person had stolen the jewels.
The thief, thinking himself quite clever, cut his stick two inches, and stuck it under his pillow like everyone else. He then went to sleep, not afraid of anything.
When the guards came to collect his stick the man was immediately arrested. How did they know?

I don't know about the first 3, but
I'm pretty sure that they arrested the only guy with the stick 2 inches shorter in the last one.

You're correct Soul... the sticks weren't magic. The thief, believing them to be, cut his 2 inches.
