I've been reading a bit about Calvin Coolidge lately, and I like him a lot. Though he's "Silent Cal" by reputation, he did say one quote that I liked a lot and find fitting to some arguments we're having today: "Don't expect to build up the weak by pulling down the strong."

Yeah, that definitely came from a strong speech. Strange how he's become kind of an obscure president nowadays.

Interviewer: "Do you really think the US has descended into fascism under George Bush?" Paul Krassner: "I'm sorry, but the PATRIOT Act won't allow me to answer that. I'll just say this: Everything that Hitler did was in keeping with laws that had been recently passed." (How's that for a comparison, Jerry?)

"....And to you, dead and bloated nation of sleepwalkers, so content to drown in your own rancid apathy that your minds and the minds of your children are being bought and sold on the auction block by swarthy old hogs --- oh, set a place for the auctioneer, he'll be coming for dinner tonight. No need to bother, honey, he'll be coming live via satellite direct, right through our brand new mfing super-mega-screen Home Monitor System....." Stone Temple Pilots

"Man [sic] today is confronted with the most fundamental choice; not that between Capitalism or Communism, but that between robotism (of both the capitalist and the communist variety), or Humanistic Communitarian Socialism. Most facts seem to indicate that he is choosing robotism and that means, in the long run, insanity and destruction. But all these facts are not strong enough to destroy faith in man's reason, good will, and sanity. As long as we can think of other alternatives, we are not lost." Eric Fromm

I wonder
why we need to refer to ourselves by any 'ism'? We are just an animal called human.

ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, and not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science. ~ charles darwin

Dr. Marc Faber concluded his monthly bulletin (June 2008) with the Following: The federal government is sending each of us a $600 rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money goes to China. If we spend it on gasoline it goes to the Arabs. If we buy a computer/Software it will go to India. If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala. If we purchase a good car it will go to Germany. If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy. The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it on prostitutes and beer, since these are the only products still produced in US. I've been doing my part
