OK, so I'm trying to learn how to cook, I've always sucked at this. So I have a couple of friends who have given me cook books and I know I can get a bunch of recipes on line but I was wondering if any of you 1Aers have some quick to make meals. I'll take any suggestions.

I find crock pot cooking simple. It is easy to prepare and tastes good. You can cook a meal in the one pot so not much washing up You can cook a roast in one just put a small dish upturned in the bottom put Roast on top and cook . I do a quick spagetti meal olive oil mice beef and veggies of your choice tomato paste or a jar of Paul Newman's sauce. put oil meat and chopped onions in sauce pan brown meat and cook about 10 mins add chopped veggies and sauce.boil spagetti to your taste , drain and stir in a little butter. you can bake a potato in about 7 mins slit add grated cheese and ham and cook til cheese just melts.

I make a mean Quiche
-- last time was yesterday and it's already gone -- that takes some prep time until you get used to doing it.

You will need:
* 1- deep dish pie crust (generally comes in pkgs of 2)
* 8 (or 9) eggs (9 if you don't use x-large) -- Recommend "premium (most expensive)" eggs -- If you have "Egglands Best", you won't believe the taste difference.
* 1/2 cup (or slightly more) chopped onions.
* 7-cooked chopped bacon slices(I use pre-cooked (about 1/3 cup), chopped bacon pieces available at most gro stores.
* Some butter for pre-cooking the onions
* Some garlic (about 1-tsp) to throw into the cooking onions (I buy minced garlic by the quart -- It's almost as good as fresh, it's quick, and it lasts forever.)
* 1/2 cup (or a bit more) sour cream.
* 1/2 cup half-n-half (You can use milk if you want but no guarantees).
* about 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 cups grated cheese (Mozzarella ++, Swiss ++, Sharp Cheddar +, etc.) Just throw in a combination of what you have available as long as some of it is Motz- - Be careful with too much sharp cheddar.
* 1/4 tsp or- so of salt, couple shakes of pepper, dash of Nutmeg.
* 2-3 cups of fresh (I buy cleaned packaged) chopped spinach (I prefer about 2 1/4 cups)

Step 1: Pre-heat oven to 450.
Step 2: Cook onions, garlic & bacon until onions are soft (be careful that you don't burn the bacon -- I like the pre-packaged cooked/chopped bacon because there's less fat and I can throw them into the skillet after the onions are nearly done). Remove as much of the liquid fat as possible even if you need to wrap cooked mixture in a paper towel
Step 3 (during step-2): in LARGE bowl, Thoroughly mix eggs, sour cream, half-n-half, salt, pepper, nutmeg. 3-A: Mix in cheese, 3-B: Mix in Onion - Bacon mixture, 3-c: Mix in spinach.
Step-4: Cover pie crust with aluminum foil and throw into oven for 8 minutes, then remove foil and return to oven for 5 minutes. 4-A: REDUCE TEMP TO 325 deg.
Step-5: Put hot crust onto a foil covered baking pan and pour egg mixture into HOT pie crust -- Don't worry if the mixture drools over the side. Bake at 325 for about 50 mins or until a knife driven through the center comes out clean -- Don't make the mistake of over-cooking it just because it doesn't look done.

It's gonna be real hot when it comes out of the oven so let it sit for about ten minutes.
Try to save some of it for a future meal because it tastes even better if it ages for a day or two. -- It might be the best Quiche you ever tasted!

WARNING: If your counting calories, forget about this baby!

Get bread. Put in toaster. Wait. Add butter. Eat.

Miffy, I bought a crock pot years ago b/c the wife had to have one. She used it 4-5 times and now it just sits there. I know if I get rid of it, she'll just want another one. If I bring it up, she'll use it for a couple of times then forget about it. I like crock pot meals too. Unfortunately, I can't just try new things as the wife gets sick easily, so mice meat will be replaced with beef

Z, I'm up for whatever ingredients, the wife however gets sick easily. I had to trick her into trying venison, then she threw up when I told her the truth (a day later). She does like lamb. We do eat almost everything with lime or lemon (typical hispanics).

Jan, the wife and I tried this the other day, we need more practice on this. I've tried different kinds of quiches? (not sure if it's a word) but what came out was something different, we still ate it, but we know we could do a better job, practice makes perfect. We'll try this again maybe next week. Thanks.

Tuggs, that's one of my favorite things to eat. The wife don't like me eating it, I go through bread and butter a lot. Also, once a week (usually Sundays) my son and I eat a syrup sandwich (sliced bread and syrup) I know its bad but I'm not sure when we started this or why, we just do.

I also wanted to share with you guys what happened a couple of weeks ago. My son (7yrs) decided to make breakfast for us. My wife and I woke up to my son dropping 2 cups of milk in our bedroom. When I asked what he was doing he said he had made us breakfast. He made us sandwiches but since he didn't find ham, he just put mayo on some bread and that was the sandwich. He said he would be back with some milk. When he returned, he gave us milk, we drank of the cups then the wife and I looked at each other b/c it tasted funny. My son said there wasn't enough milk left so he added water to both cups to make enough for the both of us. We didn't want to hurt his feelings so we both ate and drank what he got us. He stayed there until we were finished then he asked if he could go out to he's friend's house who lives "not too far away", when we asked he said he didn't know but he had a map that his friend and him made on the bus from school. There was a paper with doodles on it, he said they had to do it like that since the bus made so many turns. Kids are awesome.

Btw, after my son and I took off, the wife threw up. She said her stomach hurt but somehow she held it in until my son didn't see her.

You do have problems but having sense of humour must help. Reminds me of the time I told my 2 year old son that there were fairies in the can of ovaltine and he opened the can and tipped the contents all over our new bedroom carpet. One cant be mad at kids for doing things like that but the carpet never recovered.
There are many good recipes on the net if you have the time.

Did your wife heave after eating my quiche? Maybe I should have specified chicken eggs!

Other than that, what was the problem with the quiche?
