please read
i agree i have been super busy working on a remodel project, so have been even more hands off than usual. but... i will, at the members' request, wield a heavier hand. but i will not take the time to edit and repost anything. i will delete posts that have personal attacks. but it can be a fine line, which is why i do not like it. some are obvious. but what about a post that has some good content and some stupid personal attacks? what about a post that is mostly good with one slam in it? i will use my best judgment. there will be no appeals. if you want to be sure a post is not deleted, do not use personal attacks, although you might get away with it if it is buried in a content rich post.

Well I'm happy to remove comments that are designed to insult, and not add to the discussion. My pm box is open to anyone who wants to bring attention to a particular post.
i will take you up on this
and will message when i feel i have been insulted. Its about time the moderators stepped in. I posted a new thread about health care. The center piece is the actual bill. Lets see who can debate a bill on its merits and not rely on a pack of lies and falsehoods. When some one says that there is something in the Bill that is not there and i point it out, then insults me directly or indirectly by insulting liberals then i can't wait to see what the moderators will do.For there have been insults aplenty and nothing was done. If by saying that righties are brainwashed i am being insulting then the reverse has to be true too!!! We will see.
Look, if someone is strongly opposed to your view, and you find that insulting, please don't expect the mods to feel the same. If someone says liberals are brainwashed, I'm not going to remove that. If someone calls you dumb or something, well then maybe I will. We want less bickering, and more debate. We want people to act like adults. Is that really too much to ask?

In summary: If someone disagrees with me then I want it deleted ! If someone insults my views I want it deleted because my views are the only acceptable views! If someone relies on packs of lies and falsehoods then I want it deleted! If someone who is obviously brainwashed and then they call me brainwashed in return is just a stupid zombie and I want it deleted! ONLY I get to insult but nobody can insult ME! That about sums up SOME peoples views, shhhhhheh talk about entitlement. NAILED IT!

I don't expect to be popular with the right and expext to be considered deluded by them. But I am fed up with right wing personal attacks on chaz. He asks for reasonablr discussion from a centrist position and he is mocked for being "liberal" as a result. I will notify moderators henceforth.
i second that motion Dm!!
stop the personnel attacks on Liberals members of this club.

For Gods sake you talk about Chaz like he's some kind of fragile southern belle who dropped a scarf. He is a former VN era Marine and i'm pretty sure it's gonna take a little more than a few (often hilarious) insults to hurt his feelings! He is a very easy target because of his pandering to the left but I'm sure he does not need a champion or someone to tattle for him.

Chaz does not need a champion, but the right wing personal attacks are designed to dismiss what he says, defeating the intent of discussion. That an Ike republican like chaz is now painted as a leftist by the neo mccarthy movement represented here just to dismiss his points is telling.

I disagree vic. People do read chaz. And, a good leader and citizen asks questions, challenges assumptions, explores other options, etc. I am simply tired of the ongoing misrepresentations and mccarthy like tactics.

This is fun.

brings back memories of lone ranger and whoever it was before him guess deleting inflammatory (or borderline) posts is still a controversial topic around here lol
"and whoever it was before him " obviously
that's right good memory He was kind of a jerk, but I should have been nicer to him.
He was pretty funny actually, and a jerk. Loneranger was unstable.
it has become quite engaging here
if i do say so myself. i am back to work - but no kids for a few days still, so cannot check often. tugger is doing a good job. i tried to delete all the posts that needed it, but i may have missed some...if i did, just let me know. apparently, some folks think i have. sorry about that...i am trying to be even handed.

very good job
Every once in a while you need to reload the matrix, to clear out persistent anamolies that threaten the club. I was prepared to quit but I think the problem has been identified, isolated and corrected.
Yes
Outstanding work ... z I think you have "control" now. tugger will do the dirty work for you .. no problem. dm can set 'em up and tugger can knock 'em down .. teamwork, that's what we needed. You can sit in back and pretend you're a man. Hope BC gives the 3 of ya a dose with that dirty little mouth of hers.

vic
thanks dude. i appreciate it.

... as a mod, I remain reluctant to become too judgmental of others' posts to the point of deleting them. I'm sometime offended by others' lambastes, then apologies, then repetitious lambastes that inevitably follow ... and some idiotic humor perpetually misses the point or its intended target (and are seldom really funny except to the author). Predictably, judgments could themselves become the topic of every discussion instead of the topic itself. I would instead like to see more mutual respect and consideration for opposing views ... and to have a general informal pledge to be civil. Not one of us is always right.
"Not one of us is always right. " I don't pretend to be. I don't enjoy removing comments, but when things are getting silly, it needs to be done. That's the point of appointing mods, so Jeff isn't having to go through every post when he finishes work. It's not about what I find offensive, it's what I believe is acceptable as per gk rules. Jeff is pretty good here, he doesn't have his own rules in place, even though he would be well within his rights. So we're bound by gk rules only. I don't think I need to be asking gk if victor's posts were unacceptable, I can interpret their rules. And if I make a mistake, I will apologise. I don't owe anyone any apologies for yesterday's fun and games.
Can things be undeleted? Or is any deletion final?
Deletion is permanent. I was reposting his comments, minus the unacceptable parts, but he asked me to stop doing that, so I stopped.
Yeah I realised that, I was just curious.

vic
has decided to take his humor, wit, wisdom, and deep abiding respect for teachers elsewhere. i, for one, will miss his little love notes and terms of endearment. oh well.
I think he left DoK's club too, after aiming a comment at me, which I didn't get to see before DoK removed it. Dunno if it's because of me or DoK. Vic, if you're still lurking... less hate, more love. They key to being happy.
