some humor
Snow White, Superman and Pinocchio are walking along. They see a sign: "Contest for Worlds Most Beautiful Woman." Snow White goes in, later comes out smiling, wearing a crown. They walk along and see another sign; "Contest for World's Strongest Man." Superman goes in, later comes out smiling, wearing the belt. They walk along and see a sign; "Contest for World's Greatest Liar." Pinocchio goes in, later comes out with his head down crying! Pinocchio sobs, "Who the hell is Mitt Romney?!?"

Outright lies versus distortion of facts.
There is a thin line between outright lies versus distortion of facts depending on how the speaker presents and the intelligence of the listeners who have their own values. Any politicians can lie, either Democrats or GOP regardless of their political affiliation. People will not accept outright lies, for example president Nixon in Watergate scandal and Clinton in Lewinsky affair. President Ronald Reagan is a good communicator although he distorts the facts and people believe in him. For example, he went to Berlin wall and said, " Mr Gorbachev, tear down the Berlin wall." That was an impossible dream but he was lucky. Berlin wall was broken down and Germany was reunited. I hope the next president will be lucky. I don't care whoever is the president if he can turn around the failed economy for good by any means. During presidential debate between Reagan and Dukakis who said, " You are too old ( senile ) and unsuitable for this job. Reagan replied, " I will not take advantage of your youthfulness and inexperienced." Dukakis could not say anything and lost the debate.

... actual lies depend upon the actual intent of who says the 'untruth' ... and then there is marketing.

How can we know the actual intent?
Tha is a good question. Like a resume who would like to include bad things in your resume ? When a comedian talks we laughs because it is ridiculous and not true but when a politician talks how can we know it is true facts or not? Is Romney just rambling to discredit Obama and win the election? President Carter was very sincere and I believe in what he said but a president and commander in chief can act like that.
