Has anyone in the club ..........
...... changed their position/beliefs on a substantive issue as a result of discussions here?

Can you maybe share some examples...?

changed my mind? hmmm... depends what that means. i would not say i have reversed my views on anything. i would say i have gained perspective on issues. that some of my views have become more nuanced. i know i have learned a lot - about issues and also about the way people think and view the world.

but i think the answer is 'no,' if what you mean is 'has anyone convinced me to completely change my opinion on something?'

I don't think any discussion on here has ever fully changed my mind, although I like hearing opposing views if the arguments are constructed coherently. In some discussions I have gained a new way of thinking about the opposing view, the most obvious example I can think of that being the abortion debate. My views on abortion are much more conflicted now than they once were, and while I am still pro-choice, it is now for more complicated reasons. This I believe to be a direct result of hearing well thought out opposing views.

... education is one form of "changing one's mind" that I have gained much throughout these forums. Besides numerous issues for which I was frightfully under-educated, I have been exposed to quite a variety of personalities, persuasions, beliefs, and cultural adaptations that have measurably "altered" my previously less-exposed views. I have also gained respect for opposing views, sympathy for others' plights, and some empathy for the passions of many choices participants here have chosen to share. Such growth is valid change.

i have gained a better prospective
i have learned to fact check, Not only the facts but the fact checkers. Hunting down the truth is harder then i thought.Their are so many groups out their deliberately trying to confuse people. One has to find who is behind statements and what are their interests. Its almost like a hunt. The fabricators camouflage themselves in Americanisms....Family group this,Family group that and Chamber of commerce, and institute for the American way etc. If one looks deep you find a small group of corporate interests manipulating much of what the average American hears. A good example is in The mid-west states where billboards are going up in minority areas saying in bold scary words; VOTER FRAUD IS A CRIME PUNISHABLE BY 3-YEARS IN JAIL AND $10,000 FINE and YOU NEED a drivers licence!!.When in fact you don't need a drivers licence to vote. It deliberately trying to suppress the vote of blacks and Latinos and old people. So who is behind this, who is funding them and why? Voting should be encouraged not suppressed. And why only in the important swing states that the President won by so many votes? So i have learned that we have real nasty people in a certain party. They will stop at nothing to 'STEAL' this election'. So this is a part of what i have learned in discussions here in this club.

PS; IN Pennsylvania THE REPUBLICAN RUN legislature AND BOARD OF ELECTIONS are the ones putting up the billboards!!!.
in OHIO the SCOTUS recently ruled the state could not remove the three early voting days as the Governor wanted. So he cut the number of hours people had to vote in those early days by 8-hrs on all three days!!! WHY???

Whoever is president, will the economy and unemployment improve?
I am not a pessimist but I don't believe whoever is president both of them will not change significantly for the better any time soon. There are only 4 more years of limited time to prove their efficiency. There are fundamental problems lurking underneath which we cannot change very quickly. Americans have no choice but to choose the lesser of the two evils. For this reason I don't care who the president is.
