club consultation game
Te knights of honor club as challenged our club to join them in a consultation game. a consultation game is one in which two or more players play one side of the board against the opponent(s). typically each side has the same number of players.

let me know if you are interested in participating.

... I've never done this before ... it could be very interesting, and I'm willing to do it ... I'm not sure how much of a chess asset I might be, but I might learn something in the process.

zorroloco

oh yeah
the link

gameknot.com

also, please do not look at the thread in the knights of honor club where they discuss the game as that would wreck the purity of the game.

I am an e4 player myself, though I'm happy to acquiesce to the majority

Whatever you guys decide is fine with me
i have played many of these consultation games before. The trick is to 'consult'. If you have a move you want to play you have to back it up with sound reasoning. And conversely if someone thinks a move is inferior, then its up to them to give the reasons why and back it up with examples. KOH has many very strong players. They know how to consult and bring together many minds. They will be difficult to beat. But we will have a lot of time to decide. There is no reason to rush. I am a member of KOH. But i will not go to the club site for the duration of the game.

me too
i am an e4 guy.

z ...
... does that mean P>e4 as an opening move? I don't use this term.
zorroloco
19-Dec-12, 09:25

chaz
yes. you need to learn algebraic notation.
itchynscratchy
19-Dec-12, 09:25

Yeah chaz, in chess notation there is no symbol for the pawn, you just declare the square it moves to (except for captures)

i also use the old p-K4 method.
when i suggest a move i will use both methods for chaz and others.

... I'm thankful for the patience and understanding. My chess experience has been anything but formal or book-learned.

chaz
no worries. but look at the way gk notates games...

so
can i move e-4 or do i hear dissenting voices?
qwkslvr

More interesting...
1.g4.
The Grob.
brigadecommander
19-Dec-12, 12:44

with respect
qwkslvr g4 is at worst unsound and at best relinquishes the advantage of the first move and thereby allows black to equalize with ease. But if the majority want this move then let it be so. In past consultation games the arbiter (in this case Z) calls for a vote. 1.e4 (or P-K4) Begins the process of playing a Ruy Lopez. This is the most powerful Opening in chess.

Never claimed it was sound. I just claimed it would be fun and interesting.

Of course you are right. Like Bobby said: "1.e4, best by test".

19-Dec-12, 13:08

i am not
trying to discourage you. If the rest want to play the Grob its fine with me.It is a sharp opening and requires careful play by black. I know some of the players over at KOH. There are some there that know how to deal with the Grob. I would even go so far as to say lets play Birds Opening...f4 (P-KB4)?!. But that too has been proven very problematical against best play. Here is a good analysis of the Grob;en.wikipedia.org. As well as Birds Opening;en.wikipedia.org. And finally the Lopez;en.wikipedia.org. We should read all this and discuss what we want to do.That is the essence of consultation chess. We have 5-days to move.

so....
e4?

it is open to discussion.

19-Dec-12, 13:15

i would like to play if thats okay. i may not put much out there but i think it would be interesting to see how it works.

It does not matter for me, either 1.e4 or 1.d4. How and who make the final decision on which move to make ?
itchynscratchy
19-Dec-12, 13:26

Judging from the discussion about move one this game may last some time.

I vote e4. (Sorry qwkslvr)
qwkslvr
19-Dec-12, 13:26

Spike attack
We better stick with 1.e4. Makes for a serious game. The Grob requires exceedingly sharp play that (probably) only masters can effectively deal with. I usually get stomped when I play it. I do however enjoy the tricksy nature of the opening.

i can not seem to get the link to work! when ever i klick on it it just sends me to my games?! any suggestions?
chaz5
19-Dec-12, 15:00

... how will players be paired?
brigadecommander
19-Dec-12, 15:21

majority vote
example= 3 votes for e4, 2-votes for g4 = e4.. And chaz, players are not paired. We all make suggestions. And explain the reasons. Z will count the votes(including his) and make the move with the most votes. It gets easier as we get deeper into the game.We have plenty of time.
