by the copy machine . . .

in the division office where I am currently working - a large university medical center in a very diverse city . . .

"It is UNlawful to use this copy machine to print racially offensive material"

lolwut?! Damng! That's just what i was about to do!!1!!

Was this a problem?? What the hell prompted the posting??

The world is a strange place.

maybe there was an issue you are unaware of?

oh I'm sure

It just boggles my mind

i admit, it seems obvious. but, two thoughts. 1) i suspect somebody actually did that exact thing on a copier at the university, and 2) all depts were required to post this flier.

Z
You're probably right someone did something *somewhere* on the university and it became policy to post the notice everywhere.

Just evidence that the jerks . . . we will always have with us . . .

It's An Old Story
The only people that seem to have freedom of speech anymore in this country are liberals. You know the story by now.

Maybe the previous sign read "This copier will from now on be known as 'Bob Marley' because It Be Jammin'" and someone took offense...

that's awesome

mri
you grow tiresome. you have the same damn freedom of speech as anyone else.
zorroloco
15-Feb-13, 04:43

mr i
are you just trying to be a troll? or do you really believe the nonsense you spew? you think only liberals have free speech?

you have heard of glenn beck? rush limbaugh? you know that the nazi party is allowed to march and have their say? you understand that antiabortion protesters can picket? you do, i hope, realize that you have not been censored in this club?

if you have not heard of these things, than you are so uninformed that your opinions mean no more than the opinions of a five year old. if you do know these things, yet continue to spout this idiocy, than you are too dumb to be taken seriously.

so which is it? are you merely uninformed about the world you live in or do you truly have the intellectual capacity of lichen?

lichen
dear lichen, no offense was intended by the previous post. i find you to be a beautiful and interesting life form.

But yes, I actually have some rocks sitting here on my windowsill, with lichen growing on them. From one of my trips to Norway. They are, in their way, quite beautiful - and extremely hardy.

Still, I think you should just let him lie, zorro. He's old, and mostly harmless. This "liberal-baiting" is the high point of his day, and who are we to refuse an old man his few, last moments of joy?

I can see him for me ... old gaffer in a wheelchair, grinning toothlessly to himself as he reach for the keyboard to plant one more, pithy line into the heartland of liberalism before leaning back with a laugh to watch all those liberal wasps buzz around in baffled and angry confusion.

So let him be, zorro. I can't begrudge him this amusement in these last, wintry days of his life. Besides, maybe someone on the other side, someone with actual force of personality and intellect (though, do they have any of those???), will take an interest at some time and join the forum? I feel like mri is almost the last, poor thing left to gainsay the truth. Be a pity to scare him away too, really.

of course you are correct. it just grows tiresome. but i will do my best to let sleeping lichen lie

drum roll please
I am pleased to present the boaster, show-off, bigmouth, loudmouth, windbag, egotist (BSBLW) award to...

...RMANN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations rmannstaedt!

You win an all expense payed trip for two to Venice Italy where you can sit with your arms folded under your chin and gaze into the eyes of Zorroloco while you both tell each other how wonderful you both are!

As second place winner Zorroloco gets to sit across from rmannstaedt and listen to him tell fantasy stories about woodland elves and magic princesses, how big his brain is, and impart on you a chess lesson in a liberal Thirston Howell III voice.

To cap off the magical day Chaz will stand on the back of a gondola and serenade both of you with classical music and songs of praise while dragging Mr Independent under foot like a human sea anchor. Both Zoro and rmann will be provided with gorgeous cashmere cardigans to drape over your shoulders while sharing a beautiful glass of wine and singing "I got you babe" to each other.

If liberals are guilty of being "easily baited", which I am not agreeing we are, it might be because the other side is so free with "their own facts" that have no requirement of truth nor a modicum of sense.

Chaz is trying to be funny at the same time paying homage to the Danish and the Circus Monkey.

Sounds like a Bob Dylan song "Danish and the Circus Monkey"

15-Feb-13, 07:49

well this thread has taken a different turn than expected

to be fair, most liberals appreciate free speech, but like in animal farm, some speech is just more "free" than others

and liberals are easily baited - lol - the knees just jerk

yeah, and I am happy to see that some people at least will rise to the bait, thank you

Btw. that sounds really wonderful henny, wish it could be true. Venice is one place I would love to see again, and I wouldn't mind zorro and chaz being there as well.   Will you be bankrolling the trip?

15-Feb-13, 08:24

... let's all have a sip of espresso outside a Venice coffee shop, discuss the issues, and maybe play a game of chess under one of those yellow and orange umbrellas on a sunny day <sigh>.

I think prog and rmann see it for what it is and maybe there is some truth in tjinwa's words; but, rather than let sleeping lichen lie, I'd like to see some honest thoughtful conservative defense as a balance to too much left-leaning mutual agreements. Instead, even when I ask a good question of the right-leaners, it usually gets dismissed by unsupportable made-for-TV talking points (or lambastes). But there ARE good conservative arguments, I believe ... just too few here who can present them. How can we learn from thoughtful but one-sided left mutuality? There are too few pro/con type discussions ... IMHO.
rmannstaedt
15-Feb-13, 08:29

Exactly. Agreeing together is fun ... for a while. But where we grow and learn is through well-mannered disagreements and thoughtprovoking arguments.

chaz
<why are Liberals so easily baited? >

stupidity and ignorance bothers them. unlike the far right, which appears to thrive and glorify ignorance while denigrating education.
chaz5
15-Feb-13, 09:30

z ...
... I'm unsure whether conservatives "thrive and glorify ignorance" as much as they dwell (often to a fault) on the validity of their own self righteous experiences and education. They never denigrate these sorts of experiences or education, just other people's.
chaz5
15-Feb-13, 09:39

z ...
... Liberals, on the other hand, tend not to tolerate those who are satisfied with the education and experiences that typical conservatives already have (if you don't have what I have, try harder to get it, is a common conservative mantra). Liberals cannot fathom why those who resist change cannot imagine something better or more humane. Liberals tend to want to experiment/explore rapidly; conservatives want to wait to assure themselves there is a real problem to solve. Is it not more a question of how we manage certain kinds of risks and how we apply the skills of choice?
