Big Brother society.
With the sheer escalation in the use of CCTV watching our every movement are our societies just becoming open prisons essentially?

Western societies in particular have been becoming more prison like in many ways, cctv cameras have been around a long time now. As you live in Cleethorpes (some of my family also live there) I'm guessing you are a born Englishman? You have been tagged since birth by your national insurance number if born after about 1950, if before then you were given a number anyway.

Nice to meet you Changeling and it's a small world it seems..Yes I'm a born Englishman and I just think the line between freedom and being controlled has become so thin..We're just basically cogs in a giant mechanism but the CCTV I think is the most glaring example of our loss of freedom.

... the "just-tell-me-what-to-do; don't-make-me-think" attitudes of most folks today permit the evolution of human control ... by someone. That particular "someone" is what we have to fear or respect the most. If benign or fundamentally fair or even tolerable, then that evolution shall continue. If not, either revolution or some form of cynical rebellion is likely. Once the "revolution" occurs, the process repeats itself ... to occur again one day. Now, what choices do we still have? And, what should we do with them?

My take...
I think there is a definite value to ccts.... think of all the real criminal activity that is caught on camera. BTW: Here is a website where you can view criminal activity, ostensibly with the intent to help solve crimes. tntcrimewatch.org

... most folks will choose safety/protection over freedom given the choice. That's why Big Brother is so gentle ...
