Riddles
A queen has a room of 1,000 flowers in it and only one is real. She invites a boy in. The boy must pick the right flower to win. The queen opens a window and the boy picks the right one. How is this possible/ how did he do it?

well...
I would be hoping the a bee would fly into the room and find the real one for me.

Or
they could wait a few days and the real one will wilt.

Actually, the boy leaned out of the window and asked the gardner which was the real one.

Perhaps the sun was out
and only one flower turned toward the light. Or maybe he wandered around smelling them all. He could have looked at them all carefully, tried to pick off a leaf and whatnot.

or...
spray them with weed killer and see which one shriveled.

the room was dark, and when the window was opened, the light caused the flower to move a little? he'd have to be observant to notice it, though...

actually, i think the bee is more likely...

math riddle #1
there is a hill on which there is a road going straight up to the top and straight down the other side. the road is exactly one mile up and one mile down (two miles total). if you drive up to the top of the hill at 30 mph, how fast would you have to drive in order to average 60 mph for the entire trip?

math riddle #2
this is from the book, 'the man who counted.' i often read chapters to my math students to get them to think critically.

you are traveling with the 'man who counted' who is astounding at anything related to numbers and calculations. you are both riding on one camel when you come upon three quarreling men. the three men explain that they are brothers, and that their father has left them 35 camels, to be divided as follows:

the eldest brother is to receive one half of the camels; the middle brother is to receive one third; and the youngest is to receive one ninth. the three of them cannot agree as to how to equally divide the camels.

how do you think the 'man who counted' resolved this dilemma?

this is an awesome puzzle, with an answer that surprises many! here is a hint: when the two of you leave, the brothers are extremely content to have had their conundrum solved, while you and the 'man who counted' are each riding your own camel!

Answer to riddle #1
Just forget it. I order to average 60mph you would need to be there already.
You do the first mile in 2 minutes at 30mph and to average 60mpg you need to do both miles in 2 minutes so unless you have a matter transporter at the top to take you to the bottom, you are screwed. You'll be late for your date and she'll dump you because you are a no hoper loser that can't even be bothered turning up on time.

Answer to riddle #2
Well 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/9 = 17/18. So 1/18 of the 35 camels will be left in their current state. Could get messy.

I'm a generous guy so I give them my camel so now they have 36.
1 brother gets 1/2 so he gets 18.
1 brother gets 1/3 so he gets 12.
1 brother gets 1/9 so he gets 4.
That totals 34 camels.

My mate and I each take one of the camels.

nope

in order to average 60mph in 2 miles, you must cover that 2 miles in 2 minutes. since, at 30mph, it took 2 minutes to travel one mile, there is no time left! mozz is correct in saying it is impossible...actually, even with a matter transmitter it would be impossible as some time must be taken to cover one mile, even at the speed of light...

Imagine you are standing in front of a mirror, facing it. Raise your left hand. Raise your right hand. Look at your reflection. When you raise your left hand your reflection raises what appears to be his right hand. But when you tilt your head up, your reflection does too, and does not appear to tilt his/her head down. Why is it that the mirror appears to reverse left and right, but not up and down?
