Just out of curiosity, when is the word vulgar and cannot be used? I mean, s**t is vulgar but can I say poo? After all, it is the same thing. And how come using the asterisk makes the word acceptable? Everyone will still know what has been said?

I think it also depends on
the intended usage of the word. You can say the word bitch if it refers to a female canine. But I don't think it would be acceptable to use that word in reference to a human being.

yes the phrase: "where my bitches at?!" is fine a proper as long as it is a champion dog breeder wondering
where his winning dogs are.
it is improper when I use it to querry where all of my young lady friends happen to be located

Actually I don't, but I am going to! You see, I wish to take up the hobby of juggling, and I heard that you should learn with weighted balls. They are rather expensive, but I plan to take advantage of an upcoming sale, where you can buy a pair of balls, and you get a third for free! It even comes with a free sack for carrying. But this is the subject for another thread entirely.

I'm not sure if we give them enough credit. If they have any exposure to television, then they pretty much know everything that is going on. They have seen violence, killing, drugs, sex, undoubtedly heard swear words, and probably know a thing or two about chess. Wait, scratch that last, there is no chess on TV.
But that isn't to say we should just swear and carry on about sex and drugs. It is enough to realize that those things exist in the reality of the world. We need not promote them. But neither should we pretend they don't exist, as if we had never thought of them either. We should at least be honest with the truth.
It just seems that the limits of censorship are a lot more ambiguous than we would like to think. Have you been watching late night television lately? I know you americans know what I am talking about. And apparently the citizens of the UK have been seeing tits on the telly for several decades now. Well now you can say muh fuh too, as long as it is after 9PM.
It's only a matter of time before they are showing penetration right on Animal Planet! We have to stop this thing before it gets out of control! The kids! They can't ever know about these things! EVER!!! THE KIDS!!!!
Ok, ok, they have to learn about it sometime or other. How should they learn about it, what should they learn, and when? Can we even control that sort of thing? Should we try? You can't go telling toddlers the facts of life. Oh, the kids, the kids....

Not to press the limit too hard
but I always wonder who it is deciding what we, as adults or simply as humans, can and can not say. Or talk about. I do take some comfort in the fact that we can talk about almost anything. But no matter what we talk about, there are certain things we can't say. And there you have it.

You just entered this club and attack a member with your fist posting. Obviously you lack both grace and good manners. Also ending a club by booting all members lacks grace and good manners IMO. If you read the posting at GK forum you'll see everybody was left in confusion. Also there is a lot of kementari style whining lately about 8 year olds that could be at this side. FYI gameknot says :

Bobby..I dont know, there are numerous other young members of GK. I didnt know there was any age restriction, I thought they just needed a parents consent.
The LSF had an age limit of 16 ( I think )... thats up to the club and founder.

There is a difference. I never ran a club, so I didn't know the tactics on having to remove all members before closing. This doesn't mean that I was happy your club closed, I was upset that it seemed as if I was booted for our argument, until I was told that everyone got kicked. Then I realized that there was a problem. When I was told you're ill, I felt badly, it was Obvious, Obviously that was happy. If you want to group me with him for joking about the frivilous complaint about his opinion by another member, be my guest. If you can find a post where I said I was happy, then I will apologize, but I didn't say that, so using your illness as a guilt trip won't work. Again, I empathize with your unfortunate affairs, but it has nothing to do with the argument we've been having, and it's like me saying you're a racist because you called me ignorant. Perhaps your disorder also affects your brain, but you seem to have control over your words, just not your anger. I hope that it's effect on you is not dehabilitating, and that you can continue to post and share your point of view. Don't put words in my mouth, nor assume that I am anything other than what I am. That's projectionism for a fight that you're losing, and is nothing more. Your anger towards my statement about Rice was unfounded, and based on a racist point of view. Perhaps you could apologize about calling me a racist, and we could start over. Otherwise, I'll continue to say what I please, just like you.

..it seems fairly obvious to that dok's post explaining how he closed the club according to GK rules was self explanatory. I suppose he could have pm'd the hundred odd members to explain. Not so obvious but a possibility. Is that what you would have done?
I'm too shy to bring up fist posting in my first message but now that you raise it you can always contact me privately for a chat My wife would understand.

Cut DOK some slack. We can monday-morning quaterback anything. Hes ill and just said: "F" it! Booted
everyone and closed the club. Perhaps some more thoughtful consideration might have prevented such a
shock, but in the end was it really so horrible? I'm sure no one here has *ever* made a rash decision . . .

Let us walk away like dignified adults.
The TLSF was a nice place that we could all hang out, and if not for this club would have been a shame to lose. Let's look at this as the glass being half full, and we're thirsty. I think we've all done well here with this club, and let's keep it on the up and up. Should be easy, since everyone is all about current events, and that's what this club is for, am I correct? Not only talking about things that directly affect our lives, but things that affected the lives of those before us, and those who will come after us. Speak your mind, open your ears, learn a thing or two from some of these educated people. We're all here to learn, or else we'd have given up on chess long ago........
