stallers
i've got a game going where i've obviously won, but my opponent is opting to take all his time, which incidently is a day, then make one move... i'm sorely tempted to promote all my pawns instead of just the one... of course, he has every right to use up all his time looking at the four possible squares he can go on... but i've every right to have two same colour bishops, a knight and a queen... if he doesn't resign when i get my queen i might just do that...

no, better still, i'll get two queens and a rook, sac both my queens then finish him with just the rook... aaahaha that'd be sweet... i'd look forward to my every move... and the longer he took, the sweeter it would be...

i think this is how i will deal with stallers from now on... torture them...

no chance for a draw? maybe he's looking for the draw or waiting for a mistake?

I don't drag out a lost game, but I move slowly on purpose. I have to hold myself back so that I take a day per move. If I don't, I make mistakes.... I don't think its respectful to my opponent to make sloppy moves.

Is it me?
No, I think our game is still even, but I better go double check!

I do like your idea though, tugger. Toy with them! Be careful of stalemate though, with all that power!

My record is 5 knights.
Perhaps you could try to beat that one Tugger. Make it as painful as possible for them. Games like that make you smile every day when you come to it. Just a cat and mouse game. It's much better than looking at a lost game hoping for a draw.

If I play against higher rated players like most yourselves I may not spot a losing position or a mate in 3 or 4 or whatever, I would be glad of my opponent to point it out for me though. I may decide to play on for a bit (providing its not a definite mate in a few moves) to try and improve my defensive play but I would then resign after a few more moves. But looking at that board even I would resign that one.

looks..
..to me that you are in trouble tugger. Win for black i'd say.

Only joking. I have taken your approach a couple of times now. Just keep promoting pawns rather than go for the mate. I find it takes all the angst out of the situation for me. Its like saying "OK if you want to play silly buggers (should that be tuggers?) we can both do that".

i'm not moaning about people using their time to either try to win material back or improve their defensive play, it's just when a person makes his moves relatively quickly when the game is flowing, then when it's over they take all their time to make yet another futile king move... i probably annoy some opponents by taking my 7 days or whatever for a real tactical move... but if i'm lost, i either resign, or if there is hope of stalemate, i'll at least make the moves quickly to get it over with... and to buy myself more time... by making one move at a time, he's putting himself under so much more pressure, as he has only a day per move...

i think it's a point saving plan... during this game, my rating has been steadily increasing, nearing the magic milestone of 1700... the longer this game goes on, the less points my opponent loses as a result of the defeat...

oh well, i promote next move, and my pawns and bishop are safe... if he doesn't resign or speed up, i'm going to rub it in...!

agreed
while it is polite and traditional to resign a lost game, there is nothing in chess rules or on gk that require it...he is within his rights to take as long as he wants. as it is your right to promote as many pawns as you want and torture him with them!

tugger..
Why not spend the time finding the quickest possible mate against any defence, if you have not done that already ? My guess, I cant be bothered to work it out, 6-8 moves ?

leo... the truth be told, i cannot be bothered to analyse the position... i'm playing 30+ games, some of which are second round in the gk tournament... i need to prioritise... i haven't got the time for deep analysis of 30 games, so i'll just spend two minutes max on this board... i'm not going to lose... of course, i'll ensure i don't stalemate him... but that'll be easy... he has no pieces to throw a surprise sac at me... i did consider playing the game by conditional moves, but i think if he wants to delay his death, then i shall oblige by prodding his dying body with a sharp stick...
