sickly rating
THR.COM
ABC's White House special struggled for viewers...
President Obama's town hall meeting on health care delivered a sickly rating Wednesday evening.

The one-hour ABC News special "Primetime: Questions for the President: Prescription for America" (4.7 million viewers, 1.1 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) had the fewest viewers in the 10 p.m. hour (against NBC's "The Philanthropist" debut and a repeat of "CSI: NY" on CBS). The special tied some 8 p.m. comedy repeats as the lowest-rated program on a major broadcast network.

... is it because the American public is apathetic about 'political specials'? ... or that people are anti-Obama? ... or that those who really wanted to listen to the 'prescription' tuned it in (the others don't matter)? ... or just what?

Probably a bit of both; apothetic and anti-Obama. Others were probably asleep because they had to get up early for work...

... so ... you're saying the ratings don't matter much either ... right?

Chaz
No, I think the ratings are quite telling. It seems that many (most?) of Obama's supporters are actually politically apothetic or illiterate. All they want is a clever sounding soundbite. They will support whatever he says, so no use actually knowing what's going on. The anti-Obama crowd (who aren't actually politically apothetic or illiterate) already know what's going on. The rest of us had to get to work early today.

I think Obama
is completely insane, right up there with Al Gore. This cap and trade crap is a load of bull. They want a socialist country.

liberals are angry
obama supporters are illiterate or apathetic (although, at least one anti-obama guy can't spell : )
people against obama 'know whats going on'

it must be nice to see the world in such black and white stereotypes. much easier than thinking. much easier than struggling with shades of gray. just label people and stick 'em into your handy-dandy compartmentalized and simplistic worldview.

You seem to be a good Obama minion: Get in the face, insult or attack any who dare to say anything 'anti-Obama'. Even if it means attempting to ridicule typing/spelling errors, no slight will go unchallenged. Pitiful but typical 'compartmentalized and simplistic' thinking.

So much for self proclaimed free thinkers.

you are truly myopic. i could, if i wanted to do your work for you, show you several threads where i argued vehemently against obama's proposals and issues. there are rabid obama supporters, but i am not one of them, and anyone paying attention would know that. you are so caught up in your pre-conceived notions of what i must believe, that you do not pay attention to what is going on around you.

as for attacking anti-obama people, it is only when their ideas are poorly thought out and simplistic.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 31% of the nation's voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-three percent (33%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -2. That matches the lowest level yet recorded.

Over the past two weeks, the Presidential Approval Index has stayed in a narrow range between +2 and -2. Fifty-seven percent (57%) of Democrats Strongly Approve while 60% of Republicans Strongly Disapprove.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Interesting considering that he was at +30 in January. He seems to be very polarizing. Not the uniter he was presented to be. It seems the more he pushes 'his' agenda the less many people like what's happening.

... but ... as typically happens for ANY president, the polls cycle downward as the new policies set in. I'm not sure how 'interesting' it is as this point yet.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 30% of the nation's voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-eight percent (38%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of –8. The President’s Approval Index rating has fallen six points since release of a disappointing jobs report last week (see trends).

Thirty-nine percent (39%) now give the President good or excellent marks for handling the economy while 43% say he is doing a poor job. Those are by far his lowest ratings yet on the economy...

That is very encouraging.

It seems that people are now beginning to realize that this economy now belongs to Obama and that he and the Democrats are responsible for it. There is a big difference between what they have promised for the actions they have taken, and the actual results.

They promised that "if only we pass the stimulus bill immediately" that unemployment would top off a 8 %. Now that it is at 9.5 % and Obama himself has said it will go over 10 %, people are recognizing the complete lack of business experience by the president and most Democrat (and Republican) legislators.

What has been spent (only about 10 %) of the stimulus bill money has been sent to states and cities mostly as rewards to backers of Obama and Democrats during the election.

The states and cities have mostly spent the money received on funding deficiencies in Medicaid and other welfare type programs to their constituencies. Most of the money has been used for non-stimulating government programs.

Obviously, that bill was not meant to stimulate the economy and create jobs... it was meant to reward Democratic backers.

... if it were as obvious and ineffective as you say it is, why has the GOP been stumbling so much in their arguments? Actually, I agree with you that there appears to be lots of questionable distributions, but the Republicans seem unable to take much political advantage. I don't understand.

Nobody listens to the Republicans any more... not even Republicans.

They completely destroyed their credibility during the last 8 years when they let Bush and McCain go "liberal"... spend fortunes, try to clear Dubai to monitor security for our ports, try to grant amnesty to illegals, would not secure our borders from illegal invasions and would not enforce our existing labor laws, among other things.

They have had as many scandals as any other group even though they campaign on "family values", but they don't walk-the-walk. They don't walk-the-walk on conservative values either. They happily allowed big corporations to screw the American public and did nothing about it.

So, even though they talk a good talk, nobody takes them seriously.

One thing I'll say in Obama's favor is that Regina Benjamin is a pretty good choice for Surgeon General.

Im going to be fair to Obama
On many aspects he is doing a good job, I think he is changing the way the world looks at America. My only concern is this. To a degree I don't care what others think of America. I don't say that to be cocky it's just the fact that we should do what benefits us. Obama is making progress with the world but the U.S. is regressing. I don't want to suffer at the cost of the world loving us. I'm not saying he should be Bushlike either I just want him to remember to put the American people first and not make us a byproduct of his legacy.

... your statement contains much wisdom. Nevertheless, I also strongly embrace the concept of a World that looks upon Americans more favorably than they have in the recent past. I would rather have others trying to emulate what we do ... not try to destroy us. In a way you're saying the same thing ... but I very much do consider the value of how other countries perceive the U.S. as being quite consequential. Our international altruism strengthens those values we want to preserve at home.
