The statisticsThe other networks are "sloppy" in their favoritism of persons and agendas but generally their newscasts are (or seem to me to be) pretty unbiased and fair. |

Fox and friends.....Of course he knows, as all the abusive e-mails he receives would tell him, is that a great number of people that tune in occasionally, like myself, actually think the channel is absolute crap....... I seriously doubt that any so-called "liberal" is fixated on any one channel in the way that "conservatives" are locked into Fox News. ..... The fact is, however, that most sane people don't even bother watching television news which relies primarily on sound-bites and so called "BREAKING NEWS" items which are mostly nothing but spin...... I worked for a television station here in NZ for over 20 years and I can tell you that the ratings game is just that, a game, aimed primarily at gullible people like Thumper and friends..... |

p.s.I dont know what is currently topping the ratings in the U.S. but generally the top spots are filled with innocuous drivel like American Idol and Dancing with the Stars while any genuinely educational program tends to rate poorly.... that is the nature of television. It is a medium basically aimed at the semi-literate..... |

dont have anywhere near the level of viewership of the free to air channels..... So getting back to the real world here are the ratings for last week in the U.S. NBC's "Nightly News" topped the evening newscasts with an average of 8.4 million viewers (5.6 rating, 12 share). ABC's "World News" was second with 7 million (4.7, 10) and the "CBS Evening News" had 5.6 million viewers (3.7, 8). For the week of June 22-28, the top 10 shows, their networks and viewerships: "America's Got Talent" (Tuesday), NBC, 11.46 million; "NCIS," CBS, 11.09 million; "America's Got Talent" (Wednesday), NBC, 10.4 million; "The Mentalist," CBS, 9.1 million; "60 Minutes," CBS, 8.79 million; "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," CBS, 8.74 million; "Two and a Half Men," CBS, 8.69 million; "20/20 Special Edition" (Thursday), ABC, 8.17 million; "CSI: Miami," CBS, 8.01 million; "Wipeout," ABC, 7.8 million. ___ |

Musket...It appears more people watched 'America's Got Talent' last week than watched 'O'Reilly', 'Hannity', Glenn Beck', 'On the Record', and 'Special Report' combined...... |

qiwiAs far as America's Got Talent goes, I don't see anything wrong with using the television for entertainment. There aren't any variety shows left anymore, and America's Got Talent is the closest thing to one. Even though I don't use the TV for anything much more than the occasional baseball game, I would definitely not use it for the news. |

Chessnovice....viewers get their news from the free to air channels..... But more importantly Fox News doesn't even come into consideration when we start looking at things on a global scale. CNN International is available in most of the world, distributed via satellite, cable, IPTV and DTT. Its international reach is more than 200 million households and hotel rooms in over 200 countries. For most viewers it is free-to-air, however some pay TV companies include it in their pay TV bouquets, or issue a virtual channel to the FTA version on the same satellite. In addition, it is free to watch online, when available, via CNN's webpage. BBC World would probably have an even wider coverage.... |
