why not glenn beck

It IS in poor taste. So, why did you post it?

I'll bet a lot of the voters yesterday in New Jersey and Virginia are Glenn Beck supporters, don't you think?

zorroloco

softie
because it is funny. and glenn beck is a d***.

astinkyfart

Glenn
Beck is a d***? I love Glenn Beck. Lots of good facts. You must be mad about him bringing heat to acorn?

astinkyfart

I have seen
some pretty funny things from onion but that really wasn't that funny. Not because of Beck but because that was a real accident.

I can't watch the video from where I am, but I have to concur that Glenn Beck is a penis.

Glenn Beck
... is a very good television personality with his own constituency. Those who like him, really like him ... those who don't, obviously don't. Like so many others, he does tend to sensationalize his observations with a fervor that appeals to those who think similarly, but Glenn also "entertains" well to a television-type audience. The list of news entertainers is a long one ... and Glenn and all these folks are less in the "news business" than they are in the entertainment business.

astinkyfart
04-Nov-09, 10:02

Glenn
Beck gives some very good information. I am wondering what in particular that someone wouldn't like about him? I mean he cries on occasion which I find funny myself but what stance does he hold that someone would find him to be a penis?

chaz5
04-Nov-09, 10:41

Stinky ...
... well, his views are quite conservative ... so conservatives would likely feel as you do, I suppose. Those who don't embrace staunch conservative views would not. There are ample examples of differing views within these threads to illustrate strong conservative or strong liberal views ... I don't think you're really asking me to list these, are you? I respect that you like him ... and I completely understand why many would not as well.

Glenn, as I said, is very entertaining ... he sensationalizes like most TV news personalities do. If his words resonate with you, you are likely being entertained in a conservative manner. But the newsworthiness of his positions can (along with a host of others) be called into question ... and we have been debating these issues regularly. Those who take television personalities' views as completely honest are a tad naïve ... perhaps we all need to challenge what we hear more than we do.

Give me a WHY?
Not only is Beck an egotistical jerk he is also as thick as two planks....
I saw a hilarious bit the other day where he was flourishing his bit of chalk and writing more of
his inanities on his chalk board.... across the bottom in large letters he had written INLATIN.....
I think that was supposed to be 'inflation'.....
In an even more hilarious example of his ignorance Glenn Beck took to his whiteboard to
demonstrate how various words revealed a disturbing hidden secret about the Obama
administration. He had a list of phrases that started with the following words: Obama, Left,
International, Graft, Acorn, Revolutionaries, and finally Hidden agenda.....
At this point Beck circles the first letter of each word producing the word 'OLIGARH'.
I was about to fall off the couch laughing but then Beck announces "wait. there is a letter
missing." Damn, I thought he has spotted the fact he has missed out the 'C'...... But no, Glenn
aint that clever. He then produced a new word 'Youth' which provided the missing letter. Now
we have 'OLIGARHY' in big black letters across dumbo's board.....
That is one of the funniest things I have seen for a while.....

I dont
actually watch his show but I have listened to his radio show from time to time. I can't say I am an avid listener as I can't listen that much. The times I have listened it's never like that. Perhaps if I had more shows under my belt I would feel different. I do know he has a very extravagant personality.

Glenn Beck is a racist apocalyptic ignorant red-baiting ex-alcoholic nutball from Utah. He is exactly like Joe McCarthy, but without the avowed purpose of keeping the country safe.

If you want to hear over and over how the World is coming to an end, go to Church. At least there they will tell you to improve yourself.

HEY...
The "Lurker" is back!

Qiwi... you really are easy to entertain. Do you ever have anything of substance to say? How many of the voters in New Jersey and Virginia (you know... where the Republicans just WHOMPED the Democrats) do you think are Glenn Beck listeners?

Softaire.....
In all fairness I can understand why you are getting testy about people criticising Glenn
Beck......
If he is shown to be intellectually challenged I guess it does reflect badly on someone like
yourself who watches him religiously.....
p.s. I have noticed similar responses from you in the past regarding criticism aimed at two
other intellectual giants of the Right, Sarah Palin and George Bush......

not going to click that video while at the library, but I think you all know what I think about Beck - he's a sellout that will say anything

astinkyfart
04-Nov-09, 16:54

I don't know if
that makes him dumb I can't spell either. I will say that when going on national TV you should check it out a little better.

qiwi
04-Nov-09, 17:13

Stinky....
Not being able to spell doesn't necessarily equate with being dumb......
However in Beck's case he opens himself up to ridicule by parading himself on television with a
piece of chalk in his hand and writing words on a board in big letters like 'INFLATIN' and
'OLIGARHY'....
It just makes him look plain stupid....

zorroloco
04-Nov-09, 17:17

stupid
enough not to spellcheck before going on national television. misspelling is not the concern.

astinkyfart
04-Nov-09, 19:27

qiwi
I actually can't argue with that.

snowdog2112
04-Nov-09, 23:22

Softie - are you really a Glen Beck fan?

If you are, I have a question to ask.

softaire
05-Nov-09, 07:02

Snow
Not particularly... He is too much of an entertainer for me. I prefer a more serious discussion. I was actually just having fun with Qiwi; however, I do agree with a lot of the things he says and writes, but not all. Ask your question anyway.

snowdog2112

I just recall a couple days ago you made a comment to Jeff to the affect of "How do you get out
of bed each morning", after Jeff had made some doom-and-gloom comments about the
environment.

But nothing Jeff or anyone else here ever said could ever compare to the teary-eyed, weeping-
for-the-fate-of-humanity, absolute terrified, doom-and-gloom showboating the Beck is known for
routinely touting on national television.

So if you had said you were a Beck fan, I was going to ask how you reconcile your criticism of
Jeffs rather tame negativity with your appreciation of Beck's over-the-top doomsday
broadcasting.

zorroloco
05-Nov-09, 07:13

negativity
I am NOT negative. i do consider myself to be a realist. but you should believe me when i tell you that i am very upbeat, happy, and positive about life. but my positivity does not blind me to the bad stuff in the world.

softaire
05-Nov-09, 07:27

Well, there, I was just "tweaking" with Jeff about his "doom & gloom for the world" views. I actually believe him that he is an "upbeat" person and so I guess you should ask him how he reconciles the "doom & gloom" view with his own personal view of "everything is fine and I'm happy".

The reality thing doesn't wash real good with me because the "world" is better educated, better fed, healthier with more medicines, living longer, more aids to living well and a higher standard of living than at any other time in history.

While I do agree with him and think his views of "concern" are very valid and legitimate (and in certain areas of the world, locally, he is absolutely correct), I personally believe he takes it a step too far (in trying to advance his liberal outlook and agendas) that mankind and the world will soon end because we are bad.

But, I want to stress that I do agree with him in a lot of areas that we can and should be doing better and/or more for the betterment of people, animals, environment etc. No arguments from me there.

snowdog2112
05-Nov-09, 08:42

Jeff - I was using the word "negativity" in regards to your assesment as stated in that particular
post - not as an overall characterization of you as a person. I know you aren't a negative
person.

Softie - Roger that. I agree we're living in an all-time prosperous period. That's why I see Glen
Beck as the "Nancy Grace" of political pundancy. The Onion should've somehow lumped her in to
that bit they did on Beck.

softie
how do i <reconcile the "doom & gloom" view with his own personal view of "everything is fine and I'm happy".>

well, first off, i do not think everything is fine. i just don't let my knowledge if impending doom wreck my life. i am a happy person who truly enjoys life. i am also sad that we are destroying so much beauty and i see it ending badly, but i still enjoy every day.

<The reality thing doesn't wash real good with me because the "world" is better educated, better fed, healthier with more medicines, living longer, more aids to living well and a higher standard of living than at any other time in history.>

that is all true. but, a person could be healing their broken leg but dying of cancer at the same time. all the good things we have going, which you mention, does nothing to alleviate our worsening ecological disasters - soil erosion, fresh water depletion, over fishing of the oceans, air pollution, climate change, desertification, evolving viruses and antibiotic resistent bacterias, nuclear proliferation and contamination, toxic build up in the air, soil, and water, etc.

<I personally believe he takes it a step too far (in trying to advance his liberal outlook and agendas) that mankind and the world will soon end because we are bad.>

i never said mankind was bad. i believe we are a species whose survival mechanisms are too good, allowing us to become so destructive that we are counterproductive. not unlike the predators of old who became too large to support themselves. an evolutionary deadend. maybe i'm wrong. it has happened once or twice before. i would be happy to be proven wrong. sadly, i have spent 25 years studying ecosystems and world resources. i know too much to believe that it will end well for us. but, the way the world works is... well... bob marley said, "when one door is closed, another is open."
