The most beautiful man made object
Stage 1

Post your suggestion, and the reasons you think it is the most beautiful man made object. More than one post per person permitted at this stage. Collective nouns are permitted (ie. the Pyramids at Giza, New York, the Internet, etc)

We will debate in Stage 2, after we have enough objects to discuss. The vote in stage 3.

Definition of beautiful
For the purposes of this thread, go with your own instincts on what you think is beautiful, and don't bother about other people's definitions.

The Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is really a rare beauty for this unusual bridge. The hanging cables (innovation for the 1930's), the beautiful red color, and the magnificent view of San Francisco and Alcatraz , makes the great engineering work as one of one the great modern wonders of the world.

Sydney Opera House
I think this icon of the 20th century is right up there. Its beautiful and interesting architecture
not only catches the eye but makes the mind process it and amplifies that feeling the closer and
more in depth the structure becomes...

I'm beginning to think this is a much more difficult task than I had first imagined.

The pawn
Chess in itself is beautiful, but the pawn! Mmmmm, the pawn is the beauty of the chess board. The smallest, seemingly weakest piece- dictates the style of game; plays the unique en passant; makes the final metamorphasis into any other piece...

Beautiful in form and function

Babies
Cheers! Way to point out the intrinsic sexism of word 'man-made'!

I meant 'synthetic', 'artificial', 'deliberately constructed' and you know it! The stork brought my two anyways

Although... are we at the point yet where we could say we could make babies 'synthetically'? Like test-tube, cloning, tissue fabrication?
