Everybody now...
Let's see if we can get the names of all the African countries:

Rules of the game:

Only one country per person: Once you have given the name of a country, you cannot participate again.
The contest ends one month from now: 7th of september.
It has to be the correct name that country has now.
I will act as moderator to check for correctness of the entries.
A person who submits an incorrect name (or a name already given) will be asked to try again.

We can do it! Ra! Ra! Ra! PPA

2 - Botswana, land of the Batswana, a large population filled with Motswana speaking Setswana! A beautiful country.

A friend of mine spent a year there as a math teacher for the Peace Corps.

African Countries
Nigeria

In the 1970s I worked for a group that operated from the UK in Nigeria and I spent 6 weeks in Lagos.

Lucky me! It was so hot and humid that if you went outside you immediately broke into a sweat.

African Countries
5-Democratic Republic of the Congo

Not to be confused with the Republic of the Congo.

Formerly known as Zaire. I remember in the World cup of 1974 (Germany), Zaire playing a game versus another formerly country known as Yugoslavia.

Egypt
Pyramids and stuff. We used to dock in Port Said and they would build huge jetties out to meet the ships, and in no time at all there would be a multitude stalls on the jetty, selling all kinds of stuff.

Lots of poverty

Note on Lesotho
I picked Lesotho just to start things going, and because I figured it is such a small country, it could have been left out. I have never been to Africa, not to mention Lesotho.

If anybody has been there, or knows a Lesothoan (or Lesothoinian ?), let me know.

And the name sounds so poetic, it seems.

Are we going to make it?
So far, we have 6 African countries.

Somebody else must have an idea. Seems like there are enough people on this forum.

Come on, don't be shy. About 3 weeks left to go.

Hi Hebrit
I reckon we should be allowed more than one country per person

Let's keep it this way until Friday, and then let us open the valves. That OK with you?

That would be one country per day per person starting on Friday.

Opening the valves - 8. Ethiopia
Let's go for the final sprint: maximum 1 country per day per person.

8. Ethiopia - The country where men run fast - and women are so beautiful.

Do the men train while running after the women ?

Sierra Leone
During WWII Graham Greene was stationed here for the Secret Intelligence Service and Freetown, the capital, became the setting for his novel The Heart of the Matter.

10 - Tanzania - What's in a name?
As you probably know, the name comes from Tanganyika and Zanzibar, the two units who formed Tanzania.
hebrit
20-Aug-10, 07:15

12 - Gambia
or The Gambia - another small country that could have been left out (in accordance with my motto : small is beautiful).

It is enclaved in another West African country that has not been named yet, so I will not name it here.

17 Somalia
Next to Ethiopia : the women are just as beautiful as in Ethiopia. But they are in a kind of civil war, so I would not recommend going there right now. And they have pirates. So much for the beautiful women.

Albert Camus's country. The place of his great novels.

So I guess Madagascar is number 20
Got me by two small minutes, chessman
