hebrit 31-Aug-10, 06:22	Elle est bien bonne! La bonne chère does not mean expensive maid, you mean guy. (bonne = maid ; cher or chère = expensive) chère is an old French word meaning nourriture (food). SO it means literally 'good food' but also means the good life (good food and pleasures of all kind). Not to be confused with bonne chair (same pronounciation) = good flesh.

hebrit 31-Aug-10, 12:19	chessman on UK Many people here say Great Britain as the country's name, and even England, but I understand the real official name is United Kingdom. I saw lately that the Channel Islands are not part of UK but belong to the Crown. I think this applies also to the Isle of Man.

hebrit 01-Sep-10, 05:38	11 Poland A country with a rich and often sad history. Its frontier has changed so many times, even disappearing as a country some times. The country of Chopin who had to flee to France in one of Poland's darkest hours. The invasion of Poland by Germany in 1939 sparked WWII. Where are we? I checked the numbers : since Scotland was named no 7 but may be disputed (and there was already a no 7) , what if we called Scotland number 4b (as part of UK)? Then we are back on our feet with 11 Poland. 7 + 4 = 11 ; Anybody believe in the power of numbers?

It included parts of Russia, almost all of Poland, parts of Ukraine, and so on. It is now a small country, one of the three Baltic states, now independent after being part of the USSR.
