How many people?
How many Americans do you reckon have never seen the sea (not including on telly and in films)?

I have lived in Arkansas my entire life and have never seen the ocean.

Strange question
I thought at first. I've seen the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, the Gulf of Mexico, the Bering Sea, and the North Sea. But America is so large, I guess if you've lived in landlocked states all your life it would be easy to have never seen the ocean or sea. You can drive for a few days and never make it to open water.

My wife and I play the "how many people" game a lot (we lead exciting lives). She posed the question above. I'm guessing it's in the millions. Cody16, do you have an urge to see the ocean? It draws me...

Commander, great photo

... even though born and raised inland, I've seen the ocean many many times (military, on boats, on beaches, etc.); but, I don't particularly like oceans (except maybe for one of those romantic sunsets with a glass of wine and someone compatible).

The lass is off to a ship's reunion next year (we both worked in the merchant navy and met at sea), I think that's how the question arose. We live right next to the North Sea, with a view from our front room. I love a wild and stormy sea

Here's a nice sea. Coast of Iceland, possibly... v8.lscache4.c.bigcache.googleapis.com

... water without visible land seems without character. The Iceland coast is therefore quite rugged looking and beautiful. For the same reason, I truly enjoyed visiting the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, an incredible sojourn on the western coast.
