They excercise my imagination and the characters are usually very memorable. Here are some of my favorite fantasy authors in no special order David Eddings Ed Greenwood R.A. Salvatore Dennis McKiernan Piers Anthony Anne Rice Terry Brooks There are others as well, but these are authors I have read almost everything they have written so far

The author found himself inspired by a history so fantastic it had to be re-experienced as fiction to be believable as a story. Because truth is not composed just of facts but of what you feel is true. Like the best of Eudora Welty or Virginia Woolf or Selma Lagerlof or Witold Gombrowicz, but taken to a whole new level.
