History of Mankind has been shaped by great Empires and thier successful military campaings. Great individauls has been known as great Military leaders in their time and for History. What Military Leaders come to your mind?

Julius Caesar
Gauis Julius Caesar was born in 100 b.c. In 60 B.C. he formed with Pompey and Crassus the combination known to us as the first triumvirate, to overcome conservative senatorial opposition, and he was elected consul ofr 59 b.c. His military achievments were the Civil wars in Africa and Spain (Governor in 61 BC ). He crossed the famous Rubicon, and defeated Pompey at Pharsaluc, installed Cleopartra on the throne of Egypt. in 58-59 he is Governor in Gaul, In 49 BC he become a Dictator and in 48 Consul. In Rome, 44 BC Ceasar is murdered on March15. The end of the perpetual dictatorship, and the beggining of an Empire is just to be born with his the First Roman Empereor "Augustus".

Alexander the Great
His soldiers adored him, as did most who met him. He was handsome, courageous, intelligent. He was tireless in the field, able to out-work most everyone around him. Yet, he was also a dreamer, given to fits and moods. He had visions. His mother told him that he was not the son of Philip but the son of Zeus. In short, he was everything a legend should be.

Joan of Arc (1412-1431) Joan of Arc, in French, Jeanne d'Arc, also called the Maid of Orleans, a patron saint of France and a national heroine, led the resistance to the English invasion of France in the Hundred Years War.

Napoleon Bonaparte
Born in 1769 of an impoverished but well connected family on the French controlled island of Corsica. He was sent to French military academies, where he proved an eager reader of History. His rise to military officer was rapid . He defeated the armies of Austria and Great Britain. Further expansion in Italy brought a new coalition against France (1792-1797)----Great Britain,Russia, Austria,Naples and Turkey. In 1789 he made an espedition to Egypt. From 1799-1814 is the Napoleon's Dictatorship. He made his Empire. Napoleon's biggest error was to invade Russia and going to Moscow during terrible climate changes.Paris fell in 1814 against the third coalition and Napoleon's surrender and abdication,lead to his exile to the island of Elba.

Attila The Hun
The msot powerful King of the Huns. He reigned over Eirope until his death in 434. The Huns were nomads from Central Asia who dominated Europe in the 5th century. Attila and the Huns invaded German, Austria, France; most Western Europe, and sacked Rome. According to History, he was murdered of poison (By his Bride) on the day of his marriage.

Hannibal
Hannibal (247-183) has been considered by History the greatest of all Military leaders. He invaded and the wars in Spain, France, Italy; not Rome. He surprised his enemies with his African Elephants in battle.He defeated the Romans in the Alps. Hannibal and Carthage was always in war against Rome. They fought the famous Second Punic war.

Eisenhower
Great figure on WWII, General Eisenhower one of the Allies leaders during the summer of 1944 (June 6,1944) whose troops landed in Normandy. One of the largest amphibious operations in History: an armada of landing craft spilling 150,000 Americans,British,Canadian<french, and Polish soldiers and 7,000 vehicles onto the french barriers,. Thousands of fighters planes and bombers over the french coast to take control of the air. hundreds of warships stood offshore in the English Channel pounding German fortifications. By the end of the day The Allies had secured the beachead, but success had to come at a terrible price in lives and material.

Atilla
His empire stretched from the Netherlands to the Ural River (Turkey) and from the Danube River to the Baltic Sea. During his rule he was one of the most fearsome of the Western and Eastern Roman Empires' enemies: he invaded the Balkans twice!!, surrounded Constantinople (İstanbul) on the second invasion; he marched through Gaul (France) as far as Orleans before being defeated at the Battle of Chalons; and he drove the western emperor Valentinian III from his capital at Ravenna in 452 )

Erwin Rommel (1891-1944), A German Marshal during WW II. The most skill fulled Commander in a dessert field. He fought in North Africa; and gained the admiration not only by the Germans, but by his opposition.

Gustavus Adolphus
Swedish King during the early 17th century. He is considered "The Father of Modern Warfare"; with his innovations and skills in cavalry, artillery,infantry, etc. During his reign, Sweden became the powerful force in the Baltic. Even with his premature death, his reign stood during the next 100 years. His daughter Queen Christina was part of his legacy. He is one the few rulers, that he was loved from both sides: his military and his citizens.

Great Chinese military leader (1887-1975), a Nationalist who help overthrown The Imperial China and established the Republic in 1920. An Anti- Communist, who help to lead the Allies to defeat Japan in WWII. He ultimately lost to the Communist, and went to Formosa (Taiwan), and help to stabilize political and economical part in the region.

Sesostris III
He was the fifth pharaoh of the 12th Dynasty, which rule Egypt from 1991 B.C to about 1783 B .C. He conducted successful three campaigns to Nubia and consolidated Egypt's control there. Sesostris III was a powerful ruler who managed to suppress the power of the wealthy nomarchs.

Julius Ceasar
As far I know This was a great military victory.Sorry if we disagree starcase, but it is a personal interpretation how we view Caesar and the Senate of his time. Dictator or not, Julius Caesar is one of the greatest>>So it is a lot of correct information, but then we might disagree how we view History. Thanks for the input.

Probably the greatest Zulu chief, he lived from about 1787-1828. His innovative reforms revolutionized Zulu fighting. He introduced the famous 'buffalo horns' formation, better weapons and tactics and improved training, including strict drills and forced marches (running for fifty miles). His most significant achievement was to unite the sub-tribes of Southern Africa, instigating the birth of the Zulu nation. He was only 42 when he was killed by three assassins.

Vietnamese general (1912-). A master a modern guerrilla warfare. He achieved the independence and unification of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam despite the efforts of the Japanese, the French, the Americans and his own countrymen. He studied guerrilla warfare under Mao Zedong and fellow Vietnamese Ho Chi Minh.
