Name one thing you like about your country, and one thing you do not like about it.
gusr
04-Jan-07, 10:50

Freedom
Freedom is both the best thing and at times one of the worst about the U.S. Many do not realize that the price paid to grant us this freedom was not given lightly. Sacrifices were not made just so that we can all be as outrageous as possible (for example the high school kid who wore a Hitler costume to school last halloween "just because he could"). I know that my own personal freedom ends where yours begins... but so many who choose to be offensive for no other reason than "just because they can" need to realize this as well. Until we all realize this our country will continue a place that is as beloved as it is despised for all of our so called freedoms.

What 5 cds would you like to have if you were trapped on a deserted island (assuming you could listen to them)?
chessbeatswork
05-Jan-07, 17:27

Well...
..let's see. I'm trapped on a deserted island. Beacuse I am not a survivalist, it is safe to assume that I will not be pulling a Robinson Carusoe and finding ingeniuos ways to fish/hunt/build shelter. No, it's a pretty sure bet that I'll die of either starvation or exposure after weeping a lot and slowly going mad. Therefore, I will need the following:

Phase One CD- Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden. I'll listen to this initally as I rail against the cruel fates that have brought me to my tropical forlorness.

Phase Two CD- Pleasure Principle by Gary Numan. As the realization that I'll never see another living soul creeps in, I'll need this to construct a false facade of indifference to my plight.

Phase Three CD- Life's Too Good by The Sugarcubes. I'm probably pretty hungry by now, so Bjork's feral growls should inspire me to make a feeble, doomed attempt at hunting and foraging.

Phase Four CD- William Shatner Sings Holiday Songs by, well, William Shatner. By now, I'm stark raving bonkers and my taste in music should reflect this new psychological pardigm.

Phase Five CD- Stars and Topsoil by Cocteau Twins. As I'm loosed from my earthly bounds, I'd like it to be to Elisabeth Fraser's operatically angelic lilt.

Anyway, sorry about repeating the question about one's favorite season. Let me try this:

Name 3 wild animals that you would like to have as pets and why?

09-Jan-07, 10:12

Jesus
I would dine with Jesus Christ. I'd want to know what kind of man he really was instead of all the permutations modern society has interpreted and/or concocted regarding him and his teachings. I'd want to know the man from the myths. I'd want to know what he really thought/thinks about a lot of the hotbed issues in today's society, and I'd really love to know what he would think about religious extremists doing things, even hateful things (i.e. Fred Phelps), in his name.
