Short Intro...
Hello, all.

Being new to the club, I just thought I'd take a moment to say hello and introduce myself. My name is Larry and I'm about as average as average can get. Bell curves love me. I requested to join this club because I found the idea of a club devoted to the arts on a chess website to be a great counterbalance to the logic and mathematics of chess. I'm looking forward to some great discussions. Cheers.

Welcome friend
Interesting observation Larry, the way you see the balance of chess and the arts. It is our ying and yang !!
Thank you Brother in joining our cause<>

Thanks again....
...for the cordial welcome, Rilke.

As to art and chess, Lasker said that, 'Chess, like art and music, has the power to make men happy'. An excellent sentiment, but I think that's as far as it goes. Tarrasch, among others, attempted to equate chess with art. But I've always disagreed.

Art by nature is subjective. Chess, on the other hand, is the ultimate in objectivity. A move is either good or bad. Furthermore, I've always seen art (in any of its forms) as an attempt to convey order. Art is constructed, regardless of the artists' purpose. Meanwhile, chess is entropy in action. There is a set starting position. Each successive move disturbs the equilibrium and introduces a greater degree of chaos into the system.

Chess may be played artistically (i.e. the romance of gambits and sacrifices). But in the end, it's not art in this player's opinion.

Pagan and Proud
Hi everyone,

Thank you to Rilke for inviting me to join.

I am 45, live in East Yorkshire, UK, and have my own small Internet services business.

As a pagan, I particularly look forward to any debate on religious matters, a hot topic with Yule having just past us - and all of the pagan rituals of Christmas!

Intorduction
Hi everyone. And thank you Rike for accepting me into the club.

I'm a student living in Sheffield, UK. Having travelled teaching English for a number of years teaching English, I'm finally trying to get properly qualified...

I'm interested in religions, but am not a member of any particular faith.

Am looking forward to discussions on here,

Hello...
I'm Brandy...35 years old living just outside of Baltimore, Maryland U.S.A.

I'll keep this short and sweet: I'm a chess addict.

I guess there are worse addictions!

When I'm not playing chess, I'm a lawyer by profession.
