How much people appreciate modern Ballet, and how difficult as an audience is to follow this type of art, when the music is very abstract too. For example, the traditional ballet is more melodic, stage is more descriptive and more ornamentation.The choreography is more easy to understand and followed. Tchaikovsky is a good example with hisa Nutcracker,Sleping Beauty and the Swan Lake. Great ballet, story, dancing and great music. Modern ballet, does it get the attention fo the audience? Stravinsky is a good example on this. His Firebird ballet.

We used to dance on cruise ships, and did a show called 'route 66', which was a road trip spoof, with all 1950's gear and with a big pink cadillac onstage. One night it was so rough when we were performing that the car rolled off the stage and into the orchestra pit, with all the actors in it, still singing and doing the choreography for "Riding along in my automobile..." My favourite influence is Laban, who created a form of dance notation and movement analysis which I still use today- It really helps me to embarass my daughter at parties! My favourite dance quotation, accredited to William Purkey, is: "Dance like no one is watching, Love like you'll never be hurt, Sing like no one is listening And live like it's heaven on earth."
