CricketSome very strange people think that cricket is boring. Possibly this is due to the fact that Test matches (ie between countries) take place over 5 days and can still end indecisively in a draw. This is why one day cricket was introduced some 40 years ago and more recently what is known as 20:20 cricket in which each side has 20 ‘overs’ each of 6 balls. This lasts about 3 hours making it very popular but to purists it is complete anathema. You may to interested to learn that Harold Pinter the playwright was very keen on cricket both as player and spectator believing it to be a game made by the Gods. Perhaps he used the periods when nothing appears to be happening to contemplate those periods in his plays when nothing appears to be happening! |

CricketThere is a very funny movie produced here in Quebec some years ago called 'La Grande Séduction'. The people of a small, very remote village try to seduce a doctor into coming to their locality. Knowing the doctor loves the game of cricket, they improvise a cricket field, make costumes, learn the rules and play a game in the wilderness for the benefit of the doctor. Here in Quebec cricket is almost completely unknown. |
