Apollonian or Dionysian?
en.wikipedia.org

Apollo and Dionysus are the AC/DC, yin/yang of the Philosophy, Poetry and Art world.

However, on this thread you can be a devotee of only one of them.

Which one would you choose and why? What would you do?

I would choose Dionysus, and be a 'wild man of the woods'. I would paint my naked body blue, and run hooting and screeching along the beach in an ecstatic, wine addled frenzy. Me and my Dionysian devotees would dance ourselves into a trance around a huge fire. At dawn we would chill in silent awe of nature, as we watch the sun rise over the sea.

I know such a life would mean no more internet, no more chess, no more philosophy- probably no more coherent language. However, I would be too completely off my trolley to care. And the wild orgyistic sex might just make up for it.

Dionysian
The Bacchus or the God of wine ( Dionysus), has been a fascinated myth. The contrast of emotion against the intellect (Apollo) has generated incredible novels, music, poetry, painting, etc to the world.

I love the life of the senses, and express my being and spirit to Life !!

Dionysus, you got my vote !

Apollonian
I'll go to bat for Apollo. Apollonian art has been described as the triumph of beauty over suffering. I have also read that Plato's ideas of beauty (forms) is an Apollonian art concept.

The idea of beauty in its true form, the true form of which we only seen shadows of to date, beauty as Plato would describe beauty, gives me much more joy and excitement than the promise of experiencing a mindless drunken (albeit euphoric) state.

No more takers?
I had hoped we could set up an Apollonian v Dionysian comp!
