Ella Fitzgerald (Mac The Knife)
Mack the Knife. It is just the record playing this song. But just to listen to that marvelous voice is quite how phenomenal this Lady was !!

Brecht/Weill
Utter, utter genius.

I love Ella, Lenya and Armstrong versions. I think many of the more recent ones are too showbiz and lack the soul/soulless concept of the song. And I'm sure Brecht would have been turning in his grave had he heard the 'Ronald McDonald' version.

Have a listen to this version Rilke, it is an early one, sung by Brecht himself- notice the elaborate rolling of the r's for extrapsychoeffekt:

Here's a jazz classic I heard when I was very young, and it got me hooked. I used to listen to it over and over- it properly moves me

Chris Barber's Jazz Band playing Sidney Bechet's 'petite fleur'.

Washington Square
Not in the Jazz thread, but this great musical work is one of my favorites. Played by The Village Stompers.

I think and I link the instrumental musical work with the great Western movies such as John Wayne,Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster

Obsteve, the washington sqaure
Glad you took your time and listen to the Village Stompers.
It was in a Pub, that I frequently go, that I heard a band playing this instrumental song. After that delightful experience I requested the WS and Al Johnson's "Mami" and "April Showers".

One of the great songs of Al Jolson story. "Mammy" was a hit.

Lindy Hop
Definitely a young person's dance!

I love the seemingly careless way they hurl each other about, both partners.

Here's some more lovely jazz,
