Where do we go from here?
In this club we have 208 members, all of whom must have had, at one time, an interest in the fascinating and important subject of opening theory.

I recently looked at the aims and objectives of the club "In this club, we will explore, test, remedy, discuss, coach, challenge and hone our opening repertoires".

It seems to me that we are not doing any of these things.

Does anyone else believe that it might be worth a last try at getting things moving?

If most of the members of the club start contributing by writing off and on, I believe things will start moving. By discussions of the topic presented, improvements will follow. We should encourage club members to write anything about chess. Probably, some of the members might think themselves that their chess knowledge might be mediocre and thus may not contribute anything. I am in First Amendment club also. I enjoy talking, debating and discussions in a fiendly manner in that forum. No necessarily, we should agree everything with what somebody says. BTW if we agree with everything what somebody says, there is no room for discussion. So, members: Please start writing something and I believe something is better than nothing.

I'm in...
With your help.

This Club actually began as the "Chess Openings Club". I joined in '06 because of my passion for openings. The Club was floundering because the founder had gone astray. A single moderator was holding things together. When it folded, I started this Club to conitinue the tradition, and to continue my passion.

I can not manage this Club alone. I have started a thread or two that appeal to me and hope to continue. But I admit, I have lost the of the time and energy necessary to get us back to the top. Sadly, the moderators have mostly disappeared. I have always been on the hunt for enthusiastic moderators who might reinvigerate the Club back to its wonderful endeavor.

What might be your next move?

Many thanks for your sincere posts, joe, Founder

Thank you
Thank you gentlemen for your views. I agree with ace_kyi that we only need to make a start and then hopefully discussions will follow. Looking at other clubs, I think that we could steal a few ideas. A game of the month competition sounds as though it could be good and probably relatively easy to organise. Study groups to examine and discuss various openings should also be possible for us. Following on from studies, members could then arrange informal games between themselves to further explore the opening in question. I would be happy to help to set up either of these ideas.

These are just a couple of ideas, I'm sure there will be many others.

chess4him Sorry Joe, my original post was not intended in anyway as a criticism. In fact you are to be applauded for conceiving the idea of this club and setting it up or taking it over. My post was only intended to canvas opinions on how things could be got back on track and whether we should bother at all. I am persuaded that we should make every effort to keep things going.

On the subject of moderators. perhaps you could ask for volunteers. If there are too many applications, would it be possible to organise some kind of vote. I'm afraid that moderation has never been one of my strengths, so I won't be volunteering myself, but I will be happy to help out in any other way that I can.
