Our 1000th post and a new 2013 launch plan!
I just happened to look at the most active list and saw our Club as number ten with 999 posts. This particular post is the 1000th post of this 5 year old club! Thank you all for the last five years!

You may have received a personal e-mail from me recently. Here is the e-mail I sent with an addition:

To all current members of the Club for Chess Openings,

Launching through 2013

I have opted for another year of Gameknot after much contemplation. Although I have invested in another chess site, I find Gameknot’s environment and interface very pleasing. I believe I am committed to this chess site because it offers me, and others, a great learning forum.

The Club for Chess Openings has struggled to stay active. Yes, participation is always an issue for teams and clubs. Yet, I believe there are individuals who would enjoy moderating this club and causing us to be a great source of chess expertise. So, URGENT, If you are interested in participating in an administrative’s role with this club, please let me know. I really need help to continue making this Club a top ten active club and a worthwhile resource for interested players. Of course, it can also be a great way to document your interest in an opening, middlegame or endgame ideas by recording what you learn.

I am considering a name change. How about, “The Club for Chess Expertise”, or the “Chess Openings, Middlegame and Endgame Club”. I think it is time to include middle game and end game forums. I will await your opinion, ideas and suggestions before I make a change.

I have always felt that opening threads should be titled with the ECO codes, opening name and even a few moves so as a “look up” opportunity to find a thread related to a specific opening. Unless you object, please again let me know your thoughts, I hope you will continue this idea.

If I were King for a day, and I could have any wish, I would wish for our stronger players to take an opening, middlegame or endgame thread and "manage" it. That is, to put forth the lines, ideas, games, etc. for a specific opening or topic and "run with it"...Answer questions, offer advice and feedback. If only I were King for a day!

At the time of this writing, I intend to begin a series of thematic tourneys involving the London System. My chess coach has provided me a copy of “Win with the London System” and said, “This is the opening” I should play. He knows my play and time constraints well, so I am following his advice and will set up some learning tourneys. I hope you will consider joining. I do not care about ratings and will gladly submit to any player. As Tal once remarked, I do not learn from winning.

I hope you will become a more active participant over this next year.

Sincerely, Joe aka Chess4Him on all sites
