State Championships
Hi guys, I'm going to post some of my games here. You guys are more than welcome to share ideas or anything I missed. I play every sundays under a FIDE time limit control (90min + 30 seconds a move). First round was played on 19th of August, I'll keep you guys posted with the game first, then I will add notes later on that week. This is a good way to improve opening and other areas of the game.

1. Nf3 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. d4 Bb4+ 4. Nc3 c5 5. e3 Nc6 6. Bd2 b6

Nimzo Indian

7. Bd3 d5 ( I would of tried 7. d5 eventually gettting a pawn to d6)

8. cxd5 exd5 9. a3 Bxc3 10. bxc3 (10. Bxc3 is better, doesnt close in the bishop)

10...c4 11. Be2 ( Black is making the two bishops of whites very impotent, with help from white whi could of done 11. Bc2)

0-0 12. 0-0 Ne4 13. a4 Na5 14. Rb1 Nb3 15. Rb2?? (15. Be1 still leaves white down, but not out)

15...Bg4?? (15...Nbxd2 16. Rxd2 Nxc3 and whites down and losing counterplay)

16. Be1 Qe8 17. Ra2 Bd7 18. Ne5 Bxa4 19. Qb1 f6 (19...Bb5, to protect the Pawn, but it wont matter in a second)

20. Nxc4 Kh8 21. Nd2?? ( 21. Bd3 is the only move here)

Nxc3 22. Qd3?? (22. Qb2, at least it holds down the losses)

22...Nxe2+ (Good attack, however 22... Nc1 is better)

23. Qxe2 Nc1 24. Qf3 Nxa2 25. Qxd5 Nc3 26. Qc4 Rc8 27. Qa6 Bb5 (Its only a matter of technique at this point)

28. Qxa7 Bxf1 29. Nxf1 Ne2+ 30. Kh1 Rc1 White resigns

A well played game by black.. good job

First reaction:
6...b6 might be premature (7.d5 is awkward for your queenside, and play resembles a bad version of the Benoni). , but OK.

10.bxc3? loses control of e5 and misses your ...c4 idea.

11.Be2?! is worse still because it loses sight of e4. At this point you control the center basically for free, and White cannot even reorganize with Ne2 because of his misguided piece placement.

For the next few moves you seem to "get it" and White is too stubborn to backtrack his pieces and reorganize (e.g. 13.a4?).

You miss a somewhat obscure tactic for (at least) the Exchange via 15...Nbxd2! It doesn't matter much because your position is overwhelming.

The ..Bd7-..Bxa4 idea is fine IMO, but I guess you learned to be careful after 20.Nxc4. If your opponent didn't give the game away next, you probably would've reached a slightly worse opp. bishops ending (your Ne4 should force Bxe4 at some point). That would have been a shame considering how well you handled the first dozen moves.

I might add that when you have a massive space advantage like that, definitely be on the look out for tactics that exploit your opponent's lack of space. Many times he won't be able to cover all of his weaknesses if you put pressure on the right spots. Nice game.
