Alekhine's Anti-Grunfeld Attack
I picked up this book the other day from my used book store, as it hasn't been in print for a while. This is a very interesting system that I had seen in one of Alekhine's games against Bogoljubow, but it hadn't really occurred to me to explore it. As far as I know, this book, written by NM Alan Watson, is the only book on the subject. He bills it as a White rep against the Indian Defenses. I haven't tinkered with the move orders yet, but in the book NM Watson only gives one move order to get to the main line. This might be one of the reasons why it hasn't caught on, advanced players like to be flexible.

1. d4 Nf6
2. c4 g6
3. f3!?

This is the starting point of the White strategy against the Benoni, Benko, King's Indian and Grunfeld. Typically, White gets a large center. Here is a good example, taken from a game in chapter 2, the Classical Attack.

Here is the starting point of the Modern Attack

There are several other lines given, I recommend checking the book out at Amazon, or by databasing the original position from www.chesslive.de

Have fun!

Of course that means white will need to have the Saemish in his repetiore against the KID.

Looks like nice pleasant positions! with big yet solid positions. I espcially like the first diagram as the knight on b6 is rubish while white has a nice centre. Personally i still prefer this way:

1. d4 Nf6
2. c4 g6
3. Nc3 d5
4. cxd Nxd5
5. Bd2!?

Which after Nxc3 Bxc3! combats the dark bishop. It seems more popular to use not so common variations against the Grunfeld (the 5.e4 line is very uncommon now).

Shame there are no used book stores around my way with large varieties of chess books
