Fried liver attack
It seems to me that the Fried Liver Attack wins at least a P, so the two knights defence does not work.

What do others think?

Two knights is viable, but...
It depends on how far you go into the FLA variation, it can win a pawn and leave Black with 2 isolated pawns as well. If you look at the game database for two knights defense, the wins are split almost evenly. It is almost the same percentage as the normal 3. ... Bc5. So it is a viable option, I think it is used more to take your opponent out of the "quiet game" of the giuocci piano they were looking for. At that point with Ng5 white replies to black saying "OK you want an explosive game, then you've got one!"

hbird1830,

OK, but is there a defined line which protects Black? I think there must be, somewhere.

Line which protects Black
To avoid the Fried Liver Attack, after 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Black can play 5...Na5

This is the move I play, and it avoids wild complications. But, as W, B many time tries to keephold of the Kt and I do not always win.

fatcat2 response
fatcat2 is right; 5...Na5 is Black's best defense to the Fried Liver Attack. Still, the attack is good to play in blitz games, and against lower rated players who probably don't know how to defend.

Instead of Na5, b5 is actually a more sound and safer variation (dont know the variation from the top of my head), black gets a decent position in the middlegame as well. There are some videos on youtube which explore this opening, type in two knights defence in the search grid.

4 ... Nxe4
is good in blitz games. 5 Nxf7? leaves Black with more than equality. 5 Bxf7+ is best, but White can easily overreach.

Here are my two games!
Hi everyone!

I have just joined your Club today after my master buddy Easy19 known to many as The Master Mater showed me this very thread!

So, here are my two games, both losses sigh and double sigh. The first of those games was an OTB Bury League Match and the second was against Coach Ion (aka Ionadowman).
